The Suggestions Box
« on: January 25, 2008, 01:30:00 AM »
Hello everyone, we of the Competition Committee are lazy and thus tired of coming up with all the competitions ourselves would like to hear the greater forum's ideas for future contests!

Feel free to suggest either a specific competition you would like to see, or a general archetype (OOTB competitions, conversion competitions, FoC slot competitions, and the like).

Thanks,

The Competition Committee :)

I think that you blokes are doing quite well with the competitions this year although I'd like to see more graphical contests in the near future.

Themed squad would be pretty cool.  It's be a real reason to get my Pirate Orks done.  OOTB competitions are always fun, too.  Easy for everyone to enter as all they have to do is make a single purchase.  I'd be up to entering that one, too.

EDIT:  Best Kitbash With a Non-GW Model competition would be fun, too.  I think we'd get to see some pretty interesting things.  ;)

Super-heavy competition! Looking through the past contests we don't seem to have ever had one, and the results could be pretty spectacular.

I'd quite like to see a 'Best Chapter' competition where, like in the 'Chapter Master' competition run by GW a few years ago, you enter one specialist Marine (Devastator, Assault, Scout) , one normal Marine, and one HQ choice, and we pick the best.

Lazy-Hammer: Witch model is made with the least effort, while still being a valid game piece?

Not sure about that one - a base with "THIS IZ A DREDNAUHT LOL" written on it is still technically a viable gaming piece. Although a competition where you try and make a model out of as few parts as possible might work - a little close to Poorhammer though.

On a side note: W00T 500 posts!

best terragen surface.

Since FT posted his secret it sparked off a craze, could do that.

Or best background.

Some sort of wallpaper, could be 40K maybe not.

Thanks for the ideas guys, all comments and suggestions are appreciated - the more you tell us, the more we can make it enjoyable for you!

->More graphical contests
Yeah, we'll try and add a few more of these. We normally have at least one in the Competitions on Demand poll, although it usually isn't very popular, so maybe in the future we'll just add them straight to the calendar.

->Best Army
We've run this competition the last couple of years - I don't see the harm in running it again this year. We'll try to give you a fair bit of warning for it if possible!

->Themed Squad
Interesting idea...I don't think we've done anything like that before, I'll bring it up with the rest of the commitee. I guess you mean the entrant selects his/her own theme, as oppose to us setting one? That would make more sense.

->Non-GW Kitbash
I don't think this would get many entries, unfortunately - basically, Orks are the only ones that could do it, maybe IG at a stretch.

->Inquisitor single model
I don't think there are enough Inq. players around to warrant a competition - we'll try to have a 'Specialist Games' contest like we've done before, where you can enter a single model/warband/gang/fleet/unit/squad etc. from any of the Specialist Games.

->Super Heavy
It's a possibility that we've looked at before. The only worry is about amount of entries, although it's certainly worth bearing in mind.

->Best Chapter
Nice idea, reasonably simple. We don't usually have army-specific competitions unless there has just been a release for them, although we could perhaps have it as an option for CoD.

->Lazy-Hammer
We try to inspire people to be creative more than lazy, really. :P
And, like Commissar_Will says, it's very similar to Poorhammer.

->Terragen or Background
We're considering doing a Terragen Contest already, actually - possibly March - keep a look out for it!

Keep the comments coming!

How about a who's the best poser contest.  Let me rephrase that:  a contest of creatively positioning the models so they look cool.

 I think that the themed squad competition would be one of the best. I'd like to see a Kill Team (I don't know if it was the correct name, I don't read the rules book from ages really) competition, although it's quite similar to the themed squad cometition...

The coming contests "Open psyker" and "dancing miniature" as well in the potential "Themed squad" and past one of "Poorhammer" got me thinking. How about each contestant could, in addition to the 1-3 pictures, also write a short summary of perhaps 50-100 words or something describing exactly what it is they have done and how they thought while making it?

Had everyone known that the poorhammer-carnifex was only made from spare bits of a conversion set, I'm sure it would have shifted votes somehow.
