Additional Synapse Acquired
« Reply #1 on: March 20, 2008, 06:02:35 AM »
I recently acquired more Synapse for Hive Fleet: Hekatonkheires.  Part in a Apoc Hive Mind Brood, and an addition Broodlord.

Here are some of the pics of the conversions, pre-paint...

Although I no longer have the model one thing I did with my carnifex was to mount one of the extra main carapace shells on the ribcage of the model.  Since I preferred the smooth carapace for the upper shell I used the spiked carapace for the bottom and in a pinch could use it for WYSIWYG representation of a number of different biomorphs.
I also turned the horn you have around so that rather than looking like a rhinocerous horn it looks more like a triceratops horn.  I find it looks a little more vicious.
But I love the conversions over all.  Especially the hive tyrant.  Great work.

I like the Hive Tyrant the best, it is SWEET!!! And the others are subtle, not going crazy, so they really make the models look great!

Keep up the work!

If you want durability, you play Space Marines.  If you want strength, you play Tyranids.

If you want to dump firepower into your enemy until not even dental records will be enough to identify them, you play Imperial Guard.

The Tyrant looks cool, but wont it be hard to move it around the table? Those wings look like the take up 3-4 times more space T.T

Yeah, I'll have to see how it works out, but in the end, I just liked the pose too much to give up.  Also, it was much easier to fuse the wings & upper pair of scything talons in this position so that the model would have the proper six limbs a tyranid should have.  It may make it a little difficult to place on the table in some games, but I think overall it shouldn't be a huge problem.  Plus, I eventually plan on doing another couple Winged HT conversions, possibly with Venom Cannon & Barbed Strangler, and a pair of Scything Talons + Bonesword / Lashwhip down the line, and if these wings are really problematic, I'll model them differently on the future models.

They look like Balrog wings.

Nice work on the nids Nezalhualixtlan, the posing particularly. I think they need some fancier bases though, nids always look great when theyre leaping off big built up bases. Consider stores on ebay like back-to-basix for pre-cast resin bases.

They are Balrog Wings.

Hekatonkheires: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hekatonkheires (easier if I just link to the wikipedia page, it has a fairly decent description of the Greek monstrous giants.)

I'm not familiar with Nid models, but they look really good and the GSing is really good.

The Hekatonchires (I think he spelt it wrong) were Greek monsters with a hundred hands (the name literally means hundred-handed)

Oh, never mind, he gave a link to the Wiki page.
