To summarize the past conversations.

-Paying for Carapace Armor for the entire army isn't point efficient.

Ok, now heres where we have touched.
-Paying for Carapace Armor for certain types of units are benefitial but may or may not earn their points back in game.

Now in which cases would you say buying carapace armor for an unit which WOULD make their points back.  Maybe thinking about Hardened Vets, Rough Riders (previously mentioned), Special Weapon Squads, Heavy Platoons, etc?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I personally don't believe in using carapace armor for the entire army just as it is mentioned, it isn't point effective.  I don't beleive in carapace armor for normal guardsmen because I want to keep them at a low cost and dispensible (you can tell i'm not that nice to my guardsmen).

It makes sense to me, why pay 2 extra points per model to increase it's survivability when it's weapon and combat stats are mediocre!  I say save the armor of veterans or assualty command squads.
Anyways, utilizing cover saves can save you points off buying carapace armor.

yep, hardened vets... not too bad, they're like stormtroopers then, with a heavy weapon! and heavy weapons teams tend to draw a lot of fire, but the best solution for that is to stick em in cover.

generally, if i want carapace, its either going on an officer, or im taking stormtroopers.

mmm i agree with keeping the guardsmen cheap and dispensable!

Carapace armor is all or nothing. Only exception being the rough riders... and those have been covered already.

So? So do all guard armies with the carapace-doctrine...  ::)

But still you cannot decide to give the better armor to vets only.

You can to just Vet Sergeants, but that just invokes the retarted rule about multi armor saves and makes it ridiculously complicated.

That doesn't really have any bearing on what we're talking about though.  For all intents and purposes, until the Sergeant is the last man standing, the squad would still only have flak armour.

When all was finished, the battlefield was a smoking crater. UDC, Valoran, US Army, Tau, the Nazis, a random pirate ship, and a bunch of ninjas, all were enemies to the Vulture. All were turned into scrap metal. Or plastic. Depends which game system you play.

But that has 0% to do with the doctrine of the same name.

EDIT: Dang, Tom beat me to it ;D
