Tyranids of Tau Online
« on: July 24, 2007, 02:31:14 PM »
Hi all,

I've noticed that several race boards have a section stickied to the top showing the armies of that board's frequenters. They're great threads to show off your army, enjoy good backstories, painting, find inspiration, or just cry at your poor painting skills compared to those displayed. ;)

The Tyranid boards definitively have enough players to fill a thread as long as, if not longer than the other races. It'd be great to see the various Splinter Fleets around these parts. If there's a good reason behind why Tyranids don't have such a thread yet, I'll understand.

Oh! Great idea!

You're in luck, I like it so much I'll give you a cookie.

I'll get my backstory in a bit, but I guess I'll go first and post my army!

It's not completely painted yet, as I ran out of paint and recently bought new models. I can definitely admit these aren't my cream of the crop painting skills here. I've been collecting this army for about 5 years, so my recent stuff is well painted, but anything before then I was still exploring my painting level. I've put my good painting into my Tau, and now my Imperial Guard.

Hive Fleet Dendrobates

This small splinter of Hive Fleet Kraken nearly wiped itself out making planetfall on an small, wet jungle planet. As the tyranids made planetfall, they died by the thousands at the hands of... small amphibians. These highly venomous creatures were found on the planet in huge numbers, and were so toxic that they killed all but the largest tyranids that even so much as touched them.

It was not long however, before the hive fleet began to evolve an immunity to the toxin. Eventually, the hive ships began producing tyranids capable of using these strong poisons, and now, even the smallest of these creatures exudes a viscous slime from their chitinous bodies, so toxic that it can kill a man within minutes of contact.

The fleet has long since moved on from this planet, its strength growing, as it poisons planet after planet, consuming them with ease.

(So far, it is only 1000 points, and 50 models.)

More/better pictures to be edited in once I've taken them (this weekend with luck). In the meantime, there's this thread:

how could i miss out this topic? me, one of the greatest 'Nid freaks around!. alright, here is my Armies and a short summary of their background.

fun note on the fleets codename numbers, all numbers are related to numbers used in the Alien movies

Hive-Fleet Coronoid - 1201
- Kraken splinter -

the coronoid splinter fleet from hive fleet kraken was named after the system in which it appeared. the coronoid system is in the outher rim of the galaxy near the eastern fringe. Coronoid attacked and clashed with imperial forces at orbit of the planet Protaan. Coronoid was destroyed but at a later date it re-appeared, how it returned is still unknown, but theories points at hive-fleet Xeno

tyranids from Coronoid - 1201

Hive-Fleet Xeno - 426
- new fleet -

hive fleet xeno appeared in the Coronoid system after the destruction of Coronoid 1201. it did cut through the imperial fleets like butter in the sunshine. the fleet is rumored to have awakened Coronoid 1201 after spending time in orbit of protaan. more proof have been seen as the two fleets don't attack eachother, but co-operate. xeno have also, showed to be very tactical and smart in it's ways of battle both in space and on planetary attacks.

tyranids from hive fleet Xeno - 426

Hive-Fleet Scizor - 161
- new fleet -

scizor did enter the galaxy pretty much like any other fleet, and came in several tendrils just like Leviathan did. scizor advanced and devoured many worlds in it's path. each tendril is large and seem to be specialised on certain ways of battle, all different from each tendril.

tyranids from Scizor - 161

Hive-Fleet Morpha - 016
- Leviathan splinter -

Morpha is feared for breeding large amounts of larger creatures, most common is Carnifexes in various breeds and they are often launched with mycetic assaults. Morpha is well known for it's massive boarding actions and the fleet might have the most recorded space assaults out of all the fleets. but they are deadly on the ground aswell, launching attacks against even the most guarded and heavily fortified worlds without any fear, and often with success

tyranids from Morpha - 016

Hive-Fleet Devoura - 182
- Behemoth splinter/rebirth -

behemoth have crashed, that's well known. but surviving remains stranded on the planet have been reproducing. the fleet have now returned into space, but how it made it back into space is unknown. the fleet is feared for it's unending tides of smaller creatures and warriors are more common to lead each assault rather than hive tyrants.

tyranids from Devoura - 182 (still not based, this is a exclusive preview of a still not revealed project)

Acheron - 986
- infestion -

acheron was once a fleet that crashed on a industrial world. this horror stalks the dephts of the sewer system bellow the planet's complexes. workers and guards alike often dissapear one by one, without a trace. it's now well known that the genestealers and gaunts are lurking down there, but who controlls them?. the hive tyrant lurks in the deepest sections, commanding the other's actions. known as "the sewer stalkers", this creatures lurks and picks their victims one by one insteed of swarming all over the place.

this army is a kill team and a small 500pts army. i just have this test model to show as a hint

Some old, bad photos of my half-painted Nids. :P The warrior had a 3rd-Ed enhancement like 'Giant Size' or something similar.

Well, here is a sample of some of my army.  You must bear in mind that I got into 40k for the following reasons in this level of priority:

1) The tactics of a game that is more in depth than RISK or Axis and Allies
2) The modelling and converting
3) The painting

These models reflect the way that I like to make my models look intimidating or threatening.  It's what I'm trying to pull off.  You may think it's junk.... ;)

Regardless, here are some of my favorites:

Winged CC Tyrant

I was going for a pose that made the Tyrant look like it had just landed and was in the motion of striking.

Lictors

I have to retouch the painting on these two, but the poses are what I am proud of.  I really like the 3rd ed. Lictor, but the typical poses have them hunched back with the Flesh Hooks doing all the work, so to speak.  I wanted poses that make the Lictors look more menacing and predatory.  This was my inspiration for the pose of the first one (the pouncer...):

The second one was intended to look like it was stalking the prey.  The arms and legs are spread to illustrate the gait that the Lictor may have; the Scything Talons in position for a strike.

These two were the first models that I bought for my Tyranid army.  They have dropped the ball occasionally in games, but overall have done well to inspire fear into the prey and slay them from the shadows.

Thanks for looking.

Been painting nids for a month or two now.  Painting-wise they're a nice break from my Tau.  Here's what I've got so far:

Currently working on 24 Hormies and a Broodlord.

I like painting them, but I don't know if they're for me.  When I get done, I may be selling them to fuel some Forgeworld creations for my Tau army.

My lots of nicely painted nids, love the bio titan.  8)

i suppose i should post mine up here as well.

I designed it as a themed flying warrior CC army for 4th at 1,850. recently revamped it as a leaping carapaced army for 5th at 1,750 to make use of the run rule.  out of the original list pictued below i loose one of the 3 zoanthropes with the changes.

my army makes me grin like a naughty school boy every time i rean an anti-nid tactica that tells the players to go after synapse creatures first to break the armies control......  >:D

Here's my Hive Fleet Mjolnir. About time it was shared; I made this Tyranids of Tau Online post years ago, literally! :P

The full army!

My Hive Tyrant. I'm quiet proud of what is perhaps my most extreme conversion thus far.

My Broodlord

Various shots.
