It's time for another community game, this time it's going to be Armoured Company vs Armoured Battlegroup - A grudge match if ever I saw one.
OmikronAlpha will be handling the graphics for this one, so it should look pretty impressive.
For those of you who don't remember the
first community game or just don't know what community gaming is, here's a recap:
What I mean to do is host a game here in my own home, and prepare the battle in all respects (ie. write up army lists, set up the board, choose mission(s), deploy troops etc.). Then, when all is ready, a number of forum members (as many as may wish to play) each choose a unit or two to command for the duration of the game.
Then, each day we play a single player turn. All players from the active side PM me with the orders for their unit(s), I execute said orders (making dice rolls, moving models etc.) and post pictures of the player turn so everyone can see what's going on.
One of the main difficulties of course will be judging distance, but I expect we can get around that by just assuming every model is equipped with targeters. That way, if anyone is unsure of any given distance, they can just PM/email me and I can measure it for them.
We talk about Tau Online as a community with a shared obsession for our common hobby, so what better community event than a game of 40k with half a dozen players? The game will likely last around two weeks, but OmikronAlpha and I would be doing all the work. All you'd have to do is drop by, see how the game is progressing and PM me with your orders (although talking tactics with your teammates might be a good idea).
It'll be a little different this time in that the commanders will have a more commandery role. Army deployment and tactical decisions that affect the team as a whole will be presided over by the team commander (the company command tank). This will include such things as which units in reserve get the improved comms re-roll, where said vehicles will enter the table and where the artillery strike will fall.
Anyway, none of this can happen at all unless we get some players in. So take a look at the army lists below and the mission premise then let me know if you want to participate. As you can see, the UDC command tank has already been claimed by the owner of the UDC army, so that's just not available anymore. Azr9 and Generalissimo Stankov have already expressed interest so they'll have priorty. If you want to play, just PM me with a list of the units you'd most like (in priority order) and I'll try to figure out how to best allocate what people want. First come, first served of course.
NOTE - You must at least have access to a copy of IA1 if you want to pick a unit from the Valoran list as armoured battlegroups have ace crew skills and ammunition loadouts for you to choose from.Additionally, Mal has provided this rather spiffy signature for participants:
Just copy and paste the following code into your sig:

Production on Valorius secondus is unsual for an Imperial world in that the extraction and refining of raw materials is carried out by private corporations that are merely expected to pay substantial tithes to the Emperor, but may trade freely with the remaining portion of their product. The most interesting thing is that the planetary tithe is almost as much as Imperial worlds of similar capacity that function in the conventional manner (ie. completely under the control of the government). This is attributed to increased morale and competition between the private companies.
Competition is fierce indeed and the corporate battles for drilling rights have often been known to end in sabotage or assassination. Though bribery is rife and death threats an every day affair for company executives, productivity is exceptional.
However, every so often a company director gets over-ambitious and crosses the line. Such was the case in the 'hostile takeover' of Brunner Mining in the Pejora valley. The United Drilling Corp was one of the largest mining companies in the northern hemisphere, and for the longest time they felt untouchable. With a sizeable defence force to deter hostile activity and protect its key assets, the UDF thought it could muscle out some of the smaller companies or otherwise forcibly bend them to its will. It would soon come to learn that such activity would not go unnoticed by the powers that be.
So long as they payed their tithes to the Emperor, the planetary Governor cared not how they conducted business, but unauthorised deployment of military assets could not be permitted. This is an account of the Pejora valley incident.
| Valoran 31st brief | UDC militia brief |
| At 07:00 yesterday morning the The United Drilling Corp's private defence force launched a raid against one of their smaller rivals in the Pejora valley. They seized the mining facility there in a bloodless display of force. The Silverbacks have been tasked to quash the UDC's notions of grandeur and restore order. Once the area has been secured by the main body of the task force, a detachment of Storm Troopers will enter the facility and detain all UDC executives. | Our contacts report that a detachment of the Valoran 31st armoured has been tasked with orders to rout UDC military units in the Pejora valley. Vice president Petic is personally overseeing the integration of Brunner mining and must be evacuated before the Governor's trigger-happy goons arrive. You are to waylay the Valoran forces by whatever means necessary. Hostile air support will likely be scrambled in the event of a firefight, in which case you should attempt to break through the enemy line and make your way to the safety of the Northrop tunnels. Godspeed. |
