Default First Attenmpt at a Guard List (500)

And here it is!!!

HQ
Senior Officer (pw/bp carapace armour)
1 veteran Medic
2 lasguns
1 meltagun
Total= 87

Troops
Infantry Platoon 1

Command Squad
Junior Officer
4 lasguns
Total=40

Squad 1 and 2
Vet Sergent (lasgun)
1 lascannon
1 grenade launcher
7 lasguns
Total=99 points each

Infantry Platoon 2

Command Squad
Junior Officer
4 las pistols/ccw

Total=40

Squad 1 and 2
Vet Sergent (lasgun)
1 melta gun
7 lasgun
Total=86 each


Total points is 517 now what can i cut out.....?

My plan is to run forward with 2nd platoon and have them covered by the command and 1st Platoon i will be playing mainly Tau, Orks and Choas Marines. Any help with this will be greatly appriciated

Your 17 points is easy... Takeout the carapace on the SO and the gren launcher then buy your HQ frag grenades.6

i would personally give the SO a Storm Bolter, Carapace is really bad for its points cost... dont use it.

i would keep the medic and give him a bolter.

take out the meltagun, to get that close you will probably be assaulted next turn... Guardsmen do not do well in close combat against most units in the game.

JO with a Bolter and keep the command squad as is...

for the squads i'd take out the Vet and keep a normal sarge... keep them close enough to the SO or the JO to use thier Ld, for a 500pt army you probably wont need the lascannons, i'd take Missile launchers instead...

grenade launcher is a good choice but if you're facing Marines and lots of them i'd take a plasma gun.

JO with Bolter, if your gearing up for close combat with Guard, you're in the wrong army, dont gear up for assault (leave that to the Catachans!!!) i'd give your Guardsmen lasguns...

Where they come from? This could be wiped out quite quickly by the Tau but seems rather useful.

Hmmm. This could hurt the ork player alot. Choas player not much and will rather annoy the Tau player. (36" Hvy Bolter and 30" pulse rifle)

The only problem is that the Tau player has a tendency to deploy his rather dangerous Hammerhead in very small scale battles either that or he deploys.... sigh 2 Battlesuit commanders. Other than that i think it will knock this outta da water

HHs are dangerous if you let them be... and if he uses 2 battle suit commande then he is a bit silly... way too much points... + think of the *WOAH* factor when you set up 60 models, the only player who could matcth that is the ork player, heavy bolters are good for guard - more dice to throw... i added the vet squad as a distraction while you get a bead on thier "juicier" units... if you dont like the Vet squad then take them out and add a sentinel or something which suits you style of play... i play with this list in 500 pt battles it works fine for me...

if you're going to rush forward with IG, you might want to switch platoon 2 for a conscript platoon. You'd get more bodies that way (since they're cheaper), so more attacks and you can afford more casualties. Also, you'll be damned hard to break, since all 30 or so of your models are in the same unit. causing a 25% check for shooting casualties is very difficult, and you'll almost certainly outnumber your opponent when you reach him. be sure to take flamers, though, you can fire those before you charge, and the conscripts' horrible BS won't matter.

That is the list I would use. Also give your men close order drill as it is free and can save your rear in close combat against marines.

Keep the hardened vet squad. Three bs 4 grenade launshers always see my enemies realing. When you get into bigger games add a missle launcher into the hardened vet squad.

I have never been the biggest fan of heavy weapons in my infantry squads. But heavy boters are fine. I prefer Autocannons to Missle launchers. 2 S7 genearly does more than a S4 blast. Also since marines and orks have light vehicles the two s7 is actually better at tank hunting. Against tau though I can see where you would need the missle launchers.

i would loose the las cannons and give more special weapons to the command squad.

Yea well Warcaster i need the S8 Krak missles to instant kill the Tau battle suits. That is fairly annoying
