Default 1000 points of guard. Need help!

HQ - 89
Senior Officer - Power weapon and Stormbolter
3 Guardsmen with grenade launchers
1 Guardsman with Lasgun
Elites - 225
Stormtroopers Mounted in Chimera
1 Vet sarge with power weapon and storm bolter
1 Flamer
1 Plasma Gun
7 Hellguns
Chimera with Multi Laser, Heavy Bolter, Smoke Launchers, Extra Armor
Troops - 406
Platoon 1
Junior Officer - Laspistol and CCW
4 Lasguns
Squad 1
1 Missle Launcher
1 Plasma Gun
7 Lasguns
Squad 2
1 Missle Launcher
1 Plasma Gun
7 Lasguns
Platoon 2
Junior Officer - Laspistol and CCW
4 Lasguns
Squad 1
1 Heavy Bolter
1 Grenade Launcher

This is my first attempt at an imperial guard list so bear with me. My plan is to have my HQ, Troops, and Heavy support form a firing line while my stormtroopers and hellhound move up flanks to cause havoc in enemy lines or hold objectives. Would I be better off dropping the chimera and giving the stormtroopers infiltrate, and thus freeing up points for more bodies?

I cant see muhc worng at all. looks great.
If you wanted though you could squeeze a few more special weapon in there for the command section if you removed the chimera but thats about it.

that is exactly the same as my first list... exactly the same.

here's what i would personally do:

1. Give the commander either a power weapon and plasma pistol or a storm bolter, SM can do the "Jack Of All Trades" but the Guard do not pull it off that easy, seeing what his command squad have i'd give him just the storm bolter (the same goes for the Storm Trooper Vet Sarge).

2. I would take out the flamer in the storm trooper squad... waste of good BS, give them an extra plasma rifle.

3. Give the Storm Troopers Infiltrate, it keeps you opponent guessing in the deployment stage.

4. I would personally take a heavy bolter on the Chimera instead of the multi laser, and get rid of it's extra armour (possibly add a pintle mounted stubber).

5. Give the officers lasguns if thier only gonna stand and shoot.

6. ;Dso 9 guardsmen in you squads eh??? ;D write the sarges down... ;D give the lasguns, more range and they are not really gonna do much in close combat.


but all in all it's a good list.

Well I'm sure it's just a typo or something.. but your squads are missing a man. they only have 9 Guardsmen.. :-\

Thanks for all the replies guys, going to be having my first game sometime next week, I've tweaked in a couple changes from your advice and if anyone wants I'll report back on how it went.

I know your list is partly dicated by what models you have on hand, but I'd drop the hellhound for a basilisk at a 15 points savings! With just 3 vehicles, it'll die fast charging across the table, whereas a basilisk not only would grab some hull-down for better survival, it's a premiere pie plate chucker! I'd also switch the second platoon for a armored fist squad or a conscript platoon. Either way, you need something mobile besides the elites. Either go for the human wave attack if you have the models, or a second chimera. But you need something to take objectives with. Switching in the bassie more than makes up for the firepower lost by taking 2.5 flashlight squads out of your firing line, and a mass of cheap bodies or a second mounted squad is going to live a lot longer than a hellhound when sitting on an objective.
