Default Heavy bolter or multi laser/chimera ??

In my 1000 point army I have 4 chimeras, each has a heavy flamer in the hull. Originally I was gonna put heavy bolters in all the turrets for the AP4 but now am considering the multilasr for the S6 attack.
My anti armor is 2 veteran squads with 3 melta guns each (in chimeras) and a vendetta. The S6 from multilaser would add a small chance to glance AV12 in addition to my other units should they fail.
Not sure what to do. I have another veteran squad with 3 grenade launchers and plenty of flame templates so I would still have AP4 weapons but with shorter range. Sinse the grenade launcher squad will be staying more at range maybe I'll give that Chimera the heavy bolter turret.

Any thoughts and or advice?

a mech army is to expensive for me to just be buying pieces to keep swapping out..lol

I would either go half and half, or give one of them the heavy bolter turret. Just to switch it up a little, and to give you options.

I'd stick with the multi-lasers. There's almost nothing that's 4+/5+ that's going to not be in cover or a vehicle that the heavy bolter will make a big difference.

The key to me is that multi-lasers = 2+ to wound marines, while heavy bolter is 3+. More wounds on Marines/MEQ is always good.

EDIT: Honestly what bugs me those most about multi-lasers is I ALWAYS only get 1 hit with them. I should get 1.5 on average but I never get the high side =( End lament.

Multi-lasers with out a single doubt! Same rang, same rate of fire, but with better strength im all for it!

Multi-lasers always. They are just so much better against a wider verity of targets. The extra AP on the heavy-bolters are too situational. If only there was an option for auto cannons.

I wish, Autocannons make everything better. However, I think Space Marine players would be pissed. We would get a transport for cheaper than a Predator that is nearly as effective shooting AND holds infantry, with lots of fire points.

Yes..Autocannons would just be sweet. Another thought: due to the low profile of the chimera, dozer blades almost completely cover the whole front armor of the vehicle..increase the points cost of the blade and add 1 point of AV to the front armor! (it's a nice dream)

AutoCannons on Chimeras are annoying as hell. Although of the two option, the Heavy Bolter is the Better choice. The AP makes all the difference.

Multi-laser every time. As someone said before, the ability to cause more wounds outweighs your marginal AP. Just about everything has cover nowadays, and MEQ armies are so prevalent. Multi-laser gives you better firepower against mech lists too.

I run five chimeras with autocannon turrets, they are great to be honest. that extra range and strength with the AP bonus is worth losing a shot for, and it means my chimeras are capable of taking on almost any vehicle and possibly doing some damage. well worth it. if this is not an option for you then go with a 50-50 mix, that AP is always handy for that squad out in the open, and strength 6 is good for your anti light armour. it all depends whats out there on the day.
