Griffon: 75

Here is what I am thinking about so far. Going to proxy this before I actually buy anything, so it should be fairly easy to change.
Planning on using the Leman Russ's as a firebase with the AV 14 facing outwards and placing them fairly close so the enemy cant get side shots. Stormtroopers will go in front of this, to provide fire and hopefully remain unmolested as the enemy tries to take out more threatening enemies. The chims can fire their HK missiles at anything dangerous first turn, and the vanquisher will try and take out as much enemy armor as possible. The command tank will stay with the russ's adding its accurate massed firepower to their lascannons and blasts to help destroy infantry, and the walkers will hopefully be ignored in favor of the larger targets while they shoot at the enemy. The griffon just sits in back and shoots at whatever looks cool.

Any thoughts?

Ok, first of all AC armies are not cheese or beardy or whatever.. if you know your fighting it they die fast.. they only suck when you bring a all-comers force thinking you will be facing infantry and.. whoops.. you don't have enough AT weapons. If you know what you are fighting then they are actually incredibly easy to beat. I mean what does it take to pack you force full of ML and Lascannons and have a hay-day poping tanks all game.. nothing. That's just the Imperial tech too, races like the Eldar and Tau can easily laugh away a AC force with Rail guns or Brightlances..

Anyway, enough of that. Your list looks really good to me. It seems well thought out and you have a nice solid block of Russes in there, which of course are the greatest tanks in the game ;D. I also like that you didn't sink al kinds of pts into your command tank, last thing its needs to be is more appealing... So all in all I like your list. I personally can't see anything wrong with it.. well done.

I fail to see how AC is any worse than an army that stuffs 100 models into a combat patrol, or a Khornate berserker army. They all rely on trying to do something your enemy is bad against, whether it is mass infantry that can't be killed quickly enough, lots of armor that render basic weapons useless, or being close combat monsters. This army has a major weakness, in that it pays dearly for each gun. To take those 4 leman russes, I had to spend 160 pts upgrading 2 tanks to BS4. Each of those LRBT's gets one shot a turn, and it costs 160 pts. It can be disabled by most special or heavy weapons from the sides and back, and I really can't afford to lose one. Besides, in this one at least, there are targets for everyone. Those stormtroopers are fairly expensive, and if used incorrectly will be bullet magnets for every S3 weapon out there.

This list is hardly invulnerable, but should look cool and be fun to play with.

Beardy or no, very few tournaments allow them. Since I view games as 'tournament practice' I see no point in using such an army personally...

Against friends it's perfectly okay though, and they are fantastic in narrative campaigns.
