Default Beating Ravenwing

Hi. Pretty soon I'm going to be playing against a Dark Angels Ravenwing army in a 1750 point match. Here is a link to my army list http://tauonline.org/index.php?content=army_lists
Note that the plasma cannons on the Leman Russ aren't glued on yet, so I can change them. I'm thinking about playing defensively. So, any tips/advice?

Get as many Ordnance weapons as you can and fire away. It's going to a short game anyway. That and have meatshields to slow them down and give you an extra turn of shooting. That's all I can say.

Probably don't worry about it too much. Ravenwing are incredibly expensive for what is essentially just a fast under-strength Tactical Squad. Just focus on whittling them down with massed fire. The main thing to worry about is when they Outflank. Apart from that, just stay in cover or in elevated ruins whenever you can, and make sure you have buried Power Fists in some of your squads. Plasma Cannons are pretty nice, although you can't expect them to be too bunched up. Unlike Warbikes, the lack of a permanent cover save presents Marine Bikes with a tough decision whenever they want to shoot.

Jervis really wrote that book to force Ravenwing to support Deathwing. Ravenwing alone is not much of a threat.

Your actually worried about playing against RW?

Maybe if it was an SM bike army but RW is sitting at around 1500 points (if it was made in the SM dex).

Over costed, underpowered and without terminator support, unless they are a bloody good general, there is nothing you have to worry about.



But as a general rule, as many multi shot weapons as you can fit in will help.

Thanks. Do you think I should keep the plasmas on the side of the Russ or change them to Heavy Bolters?

Plasma rifles do not exist for the IG.

Also I would recommend a couple of normal LRBT's if you have them as AP3 and str 8 should really make a mess of them, personnaly I would use heavy bolters as sponsons but that is mainly to keep them cheap.

I suppose he means plasma guns, which do exist. Leman Russ are definitely nice to have around, that executioner should tear up at least 1 bike squad a turn, which most likely costs more than your tank. Also remember, the toughness added from bikes is not count for instant death purposes, so a battle cannon does have the capacity to 1 hit KO a captain/chaplain/HQ on a bike. If you got em stick in a few sentinels with autocannons to make sure any land speeders become rock gardens.

If you're not being sarcastic, then you're completely wrong. In fact, I checked the codex. I AM allowed to give my troops plasma rifles. Though expensive. But my point still stands! Having a bunch of guardsmen with a comand squad behind them means 160 las shots, which is actually good, despite skeptisism.

It is just a terminology issue, so I will clear it up and it can be dropped. The Imperium and Chaos Space Marines have access to weapons called the Plasma Pistol, the Plasma Gun, and the Plasma Cannon. The Plasma Rifle is a Tau weapon with a different statline.
