Default The Heresy is here.

As everyone knows I play primarily play Tau and I've always looked into making a IG seconday (well Tertiary) army to accompagny them as a Auxiliary force.

In 4th Edition I was considering using Sharpshooter, Grenadier, veteran and mechanised traits since I wanted a SWAT themed IG list. Basically in the fluff it's basically Cityguard/elite police force.

So far I own

-1 lieutenant with powersword
+ 3rd edition chimera and 6 guards converted with tau armour and pulse carbine
-15 regular guardsman
+1 chimera
-3 converted cadian pattern Sentinel (with railrifle instead of autocannon)
-3 2nd edition sentinel with multilaser
-2 cadian sniper
+1 vindicare assassin for team leader
-1 hellhound (new model for the chemical weapon)
-12 Hunters Imperial stromtroopers
+2 kit of special weapon (2 flamer, 2 plasma, 2 melta, 2 grenade launcher)
-Old Imperial Beastman and sqaut that I will use as count as guardman

So aside from Chimeras, more guards what would oyu recommand me to get?

Well, what are your goals for this force? I would imagine that you're looking for a mechanized force, as your troops need to navigate the city quickly. A Valkyrie would be a great addition, as it would be much faster than roads, but of course only if you have enough funding

How large are you looking to go, if it's just a side army that you're not too serious about, just buy more basic guardsmen, and a command squad can never hurt. I bought 2 just for the extra bits, that thing is incredible.

Well, The goal is a small mechanized infantry army, the kind that would be in service in cities and Hives focusing more on special weapon, veteran troops rather then sheer number. Also to limit collateral property damage they would not be using any tanks.

I'm aiming for roughly 1500-2000 points tops.

I figures I'd need a command squad and 20 or 30 more guardsman. I did not initially thought about the Valk but that would fit with the theme, so I might get a few.

2000 points is a lot for guardsmen. You'll need a lot of them, specially if you're not taking any LRBT's. I would get a few more Hellhounds, they're extremely useful.

Well even with 2000 points, yes i will need more guards, but being mechanized, I'll be fielding a lot of chimera (1 per HQ, troop and Elite sqaud fielded) and that will end up eating a lot of point too.

Mmm A few more hellhound could be interesting indeed. They are pretty effective and fit the fluff well.

Problem is Hellhound, sentinels and valkyrie are all fast attack and that might be tough to take them all is significant number...onless I'm missing something, I just had time to glance at my IG codex.

This is true, but you can take squadrons of each, so you'll get a few of each of them

Why not get the FW Repressor? It goes with the SofB or Arbites armies but if you want a SWAT theme then I think a Repressor is a must.

I agree it would fit with the theme, but I'm not going to buy IA2 just for the rule of 1 tank. But I'll jkeep it in mind just for the model though.

Also you might want to check out this conversion: https://www.coolminiornot.com/index/whatm/GW/id/241486

I think it could be a good for a SWAT base themed army.
I don't know if it is a hard one to convert and I think it needs a lil something on the turret. Maybe a searchlight.

Anywho, I thought it was a good conversion.

The rules for IA 1 and 2 models are free on PDF in the FW download section because points costs and some rules in the printed version are now obsolete due to new codex releases.
