Default Drop Troops Musing

Anyone kinda pissed that our current Imperial Guard Codex doesn't allow Drop Troop Lists? The list that was the staple in the previous Codex. I wouldn't be so tick off if they haven't given Tyranids to deepstrike and just add salt to the wound, they have a Drop Pod-like method to deepstrike.

I was never a big fan of DS Guard armies with the 4th ed codex, so I don't lament their loss.

It seems to me that most of what could be accomplished with DS has been replace by outflank or by Valks / Vendettas. Now, being reliant on a unit to fulfill needed game roles normally isn't the best situation, but they're awesome so I'm not complaining.

I was under the impression you could do drop troop lists, by using veterans & valks... :

I miss my good ol' drop troops list. 30something flame templates was an awesome thing to do in a cities of death game.

@ Baldrick: It's not as good as deep-striking infantry squads and sentinels. Which reminds me, too bad Valks can't transport sentinels anymore.

Ah yes, my mistake

For me it's almost the same thing ( i never used the old drop troop lists), so for me, my guys still function as a kind of paratrooper

The only real way to pull off 'Traditional' Drop Troops Doctrine would be to either use Imperial Armor 3 or 4, or play Planetstrike. However, I've seen quite a few 'old' (if that term can even be used) Elysian armies use Valkyries and Vendettas to great effect. Some of my opponents at the local metagame often field NINE Vendettas or Valkyries in a game, so if you want to go that route, go for it.

In anything less than 2500 points 9 of them is too many.

You cant effectivly equip them all and still have decent troop setups inside.

On the drop troops thing. I run my Elysian Drop Troop from a Valk list.
Ground elements with air support is my theme, and will be dropping 1 or two of the valks for some of those awesome new buggys to use as stand in chimeras.
