Default How do guard night fight?

Well i was discussing something with my friends earlier, which was basically how different races fought at night, it arose from me making the point tau often attack at night. But i couldn't remember anyway that guard nightfight.

Surely they must have a way of doing it, do they use nightvision or flares to light up the battlefield, tracers etc.

If I'm an idiot and missing something completely obvious, could someone point me in the right direction

thanks in advance

There's a reason just about every guard vehicle comes with a free searchlight. So yeah, you pretty much got it. Searchlights, flares, maybe a few goggles if the tech level of the regiment isn't completely backwards. Lasguns would likely have something of a built in tracer effect so the basic infantry pretty much come with tracer rounds.

Then of course there's always the "throw enough mud at a wall" and "bomb it to rubble" options. A lot of guard commanders will use these even during the daytime.

All guardsman handily carry around a flash light... oh wait that's a lasgun.

In all seriousness the guard have things like nightvision and plenty of search lights.

Searchlights, mainly. Limited amounts of sensor equipment and night vision. They aren't great at it.

Searchlights, flares, goggles, and explosions. Hellhounds and Flamethrowers too.

I'd imagine any artillery would have a flare round or two, I can imagine Griffons being quite good for it.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?

Illum rounds have previously been an option for Griffons in Imperial Armour, and certain Imperial Navy aircraft can carry Illum Flares; both of which would essentially negate the Night Fighting rules for a single turn when used.

The Imperial Guard have low-light vision equipment. Tau low-light vision equipment is just better, that's all.

It's generally assumed that everybody has some sort of NVG.

QFT

The vast majority of Guard vehicles come equipped with low-light and IR sensors; searchlights, both in the visible light and IR forms, are there for use as a stop-gap measure in case of an emergency.

Real men fight in tanks!

You have a reference for that? The codex doesn't really mention that in the background for the Searchlight.

Hah. I'd forgotten about that.

Well it is concievable that they'd want it as a backup. Though really, putting a searchlight on a tank is kind of silly, what with the sort of energies they're throwing around...
