Default Yesterday's Friendlies at GW

I decided to go to last night's Veteran's Evening to have a few games with my Imperial Guard. My my, you wouldn't think a guy could roll so badly...

My first game was against a very new player's 500pts Dark Eldar on a ruined city board. Fire arcs were horribly restrictive (bar a few tallish buildings which I used to my advantage. His only Raider only managed to hop a Warrior Squad closer to my forces before I stunned then destroyed it. He took moderate losses from my mass of rapid firing Conscripts and heavy bolters, but managed to get into close combat relatively undamaged. His Wyches and Archon really messed my right flank up, while 3 Haemonculi utterly ravaged my Conscripts with 3 Stingers (about 10 losses...my poor conscripts!). A shock happened on the right flank when one of my Lieutenants (base, so no power weapon) first collapsed the Archon's Shadow Field and then killed him in single combat! The Wyches, however, slaughtered the rest of the Platoon in a drug-frenzied massacre. The last turn saw his last Warrior Squad shoot my last command squad to pieces and the Wyches sweep into the flank of the Heavy Bolters, then gun down the last few members of my fleeing Conscripts (the first time they've ever been wiped out, btw). A well deserved (if minor) victory to him - his first, apperently.

My second game was an allied game (with the Dark Eldar player) against 1500pts of Blood Angels. The GW staff were a bit miffed by it, but I sweet talked them into leaving us be. Again we used the horrible city board - damn. At least I had a few extra high points to shoot from, and a nice little niche to hide my Demolition Charge in We were facing over 40 Blood Angels on foot, with Terminators and Assault Marines in reserve. To cut a long story short, it was very bloody - for us. While I managed to hold off the mass of the Blood Angel infantry with my long range fire (forcing them to flee right to the board edge and stay there most of the game), the deep striking Terminators and Assault Marines carved me to pieces, and concentrated fire from the Blood Angels minced the Dark Eldar (despite trying their hardest - killing the Death Company and Scouts that were trying to use their homer for the Terminators). Things would of been alot more peachy for me if I didn't mess up my Demo Charge - he'd deep struke them closeby, not realising where I'd placed it. The horrible grin I had on my face when I placed the Demo trooper on the top of the rubble looking into the house they'd crashed into (such a great image - where's a camera when you need one?), he lobbed his Demo Charge...right over the wall and off the table. Idiot...

I'm planning on going back next week - hopefully I can grab a table with a clearer terrain board then!

Sounds like you had fun with bad luck.

Gave me an excuse to do silly dances when I actually managed to roll decent dice

wow that sounds like quite a night. i take it that you lost the second game. demo charges are always fun, but a room of marines? that bruised an ego big time. better luck next time.

Technically I lost. We ran out of time to finish the game, and the Dark Eldar were practically wiped out, and I had Assault Marines and Terminators rampaging through my left flank. My right flank was still relatively secure, but probably not for long...

And yeah, it sucked that I missed with the demo charge. Thankfully it didn't land on my own troops though!

I might just do that. I was planning on giving my demo trooper a big fat cigar, but now that he's proved his uselessness I don't think I'll bother!

Well I'm going to give him another chance to redeem himself. Who knows, if he does well I might even convert a replacement model for when I've thrown the Demo Charge - smoking that big fat cigar
