Default Catachan Army

Im finally working on my Catachan Imperial Guard Army and basing them as the Marines during the Vietnam Era. What would you guys recommend in weapons and vehicles? Would you recommend Leman Russ Punisher (Most of the players have Orks)?

...I'm just starting to work on the same exact thing...

Personally I'm going with heavy stubbers on anything I can put it on, since they look like .50 cals, which saw a crapload of use during that time.

I'm still in the early stages myself, so I'm afraid I can't be of much assistance right now. I'm going to be grilling my dad for details about anything, to make my army as accurate as possible (He was in the Marines from '64-'68)

I went with Autcannons for the .50 calibers and mix some troops with Heavy Flamers, Flamers, Grenade Launchers and Missile Launchers.

My father is a veteran of Desert Storm.

My father was in Vietnam, Air Force. He doesn't like to talk about it much. Everyone who was there knows exactly what sound a Huey makes, Valks could fill the same role in your army. That could be interpreted as Gallows humour though, Valkries being the beings that brought nordic warriors to Valhalla, be careful with that.

Master of Ordnance would not be unjustified, due to operation Rolling Thunder. Lots of Flamers and Heavy Bolters. Otherwise, catachany stuff. Straken, Harker, all those guys.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?

I would also say give your Valkyries multiplerocket pods. Partly they perform better in game and they are similar to the weapon systems used on the choppers in Vietnam.

model wise i dunno... the catachan models dont seem like marines to me... to muscular :/ i'd say marines look more like cadians, except w/ no sleeves and their arms painted flesh colour, but not catachan arms, to cheap 80s action movie *shudders*

I prefer cadians... catachans look idiotic to me... i mean, c'mon, a bunch of guys w/ biceps the size of bournmouth isn't exactly 'normal' for humans... they look like 'mini' marines, but cheap & cheesy, like mini-rambos but a failure, just generally horribe
Worst thread ever!

Thats why I like them. Cadians are ok but, they remind me of Starship Troopers.

Gotta include a Hellhound for some flamer tank action, like the "Marine M67 in Vietnam, 1968". Any weapon you can field that ignores cover will fit into the Vietman War style weapons.

I'd build it:
HQ: Company command squad with astropath to symbolize the need to call in reinforcements.
Elite: Guardsman Marbo. And nothing else.
Troops: Veterans, veterans and more veterans. Packing heavy flamers and demo charges. I'd also include Harker in a squad for flavor and his special rules, and his heavybolter can count as an M-60 machine gun.
Fast Attack: Valkyries, Vendettas, and hellhounds. Where the Valkyries will represent the UH-1 that was widely used during the Vietnam war.
Heavy Support: Punisher sounds about right, Colossus, and any other tank you fancy.

To all the Catachan naysayers; I find them much more fun to model and paint than Cadian guardsman. Starship Troopers, and Aliens is my inspiration for my Cadians. The guys from the movie "Predator" is my Catachans' inspiration.
When brute force doesn't solve your problem you aren't using enough.
