Default Leman Russ Vanquisher, now with extra brokenness

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/downloads40k.htm

the Vanquisher, the imperials best antiarmour tank, which since the new codex came out, can move and fire its ordnance, can now be made twin linked, by adding a co-axial storm bolter or heavy stubber.

how much more cheese is GW going to pile on the guard? its just getting stupid now.

This is just Forgeworld rules, right? It's not like it's tournament legal except in special cases, like the Gladiator tournament at Adepticon.

The Vanquisher, since the new Codex came out, doesn't have Ordnance. It has a piss-poor watered down version of its old gun, and any Tread-Head worth his HEAT rounds will be fielding the Pre-update IAvol1 Vanquisher instead.

surely with its 2d6 for penetration it doesn't need ordnance rules? its essentially a melta tank.

And what, prey tell, does 2D6 Heavy 1 do against a Devastator Squad?

The point of the Vanquisher is that it is the king of tanks. It can flatten squads and it tears enemy armour to shreds; it does everything, and the price you pay is a bloody-huge points cost!

Now, the Vanquisher is utterly, utterly useless unless pointed at a Land Raider.

what does ordnance do against dev squads? you cant do 2d6 pick highest against troops.

*sigh*

Right. Look up BattleCannon rules. Now add +12" to the range. That was a Vanquisher's "High Ex" shot.

Now take the current Vanquisher rules, and add +12" to the range. That was the Vanquisher's "Anti-Tank" shot.

Which version do you prefer; AT only, or HE and AT and longer range?

Whoa! Poor little guy got nerfed big time. I agree, they are fairly useless and you're better of taking other heavy support.

i wasnt aware it had ever had more than 1 mode of fire.

in that case yes, its definatly worse.

but, my point in this thread, is that the vanq, as an antitank tank, is now getting silly. plus you could add pask, and although it would cost a fair sum it would simply laugh at anything.

its now 2d6
lumbering
and twinlinked.
and possibly pask. how is that not going to far.

someone suggest that for the next tau codex for the railhead and you'd never heard the end of it

: Ugh...

For the last friggin' time! Vanquishers are only better at getting a PENETRATION SHOT. That's it. Railgun is still the best AT gun out there (unless you count Melta weapons but we're going for long range AT guns). You know why? The simple fact that the Railgun is AP1 thus +1 to the Vehicle Damage Table. Not only that, it's Strength 10 so it can easily penetrate most vehicles (though slightly less than the Vanquisher) as well as instant-kill T5 multi-wounded models e.g. Thunderwolf Cavalry, Ork Warboss etc.

You know why we add on Knight Commander Pask and a Lascannon [and maybe Multi-Meltas as Sponsons]? To compensate for the BS3 of the Leman Russ and to make sure it's just as effective as Lascannon-spam we can get from Infantry Platoons. More shots means more of a chance to hit and destroy. Get over it. Tau still have the best long range AT gun out there and you should be happy about it.
