Default IG Air regiments...

Ok, so i've finally made up my mind and bought the IG book

now, as some of you may know, i want to do an airborne/air cav army, and i was just wondering what regiments already exist that are airborne?

i know there's the Harakoni Whawks. (cool, but dunno much about 'em)
I know about Elysians (expensive though)
And of course the bog standard cadians that suddenly have grown wings (metaphorically)

which do you guys like best?, do any of you know of any other airborne regiments?, do you do one yourself?, dont be afraid to post pics

cheers

I run Airborne Catachans. Based on the Vietnam War tactics, which was a a jungle with where choppers really started being used like they are today. It was the birth of the gunship style chopper (UH-1 Huey Gunship, and Cobra attach chopper), much like the Valkyrie and Vulture is in 40k. Link to some pictures of what I'm talking about.

Dropping in veteran Catachan jungle fighters into a hot zone and then giving them backup with some gunships, since tanks don't do so hot in the jungle. All I need to do is play some classic rock or the Predator theme while I do it.

It also gives Harker a reason to yell, "Get to tha valkuiree!!"

If I was you I'd look at some real world Air Cavalry operations and draw inspiration from that. So, I just make up my own regiment and use what ever I wanted. There is an untold number of IG regiments, so you can come up with your own planet/background for the regiment.

The two that I'm most fond of are the Phantine and guard regiments for Altair IV. Phantine is a world that fields guard regiments that are airborne, and is best known for using actual fighters like the Thunderbolt, and bombers like the Maurauder. They would also understandable use drop troops.

Altair IV guardsmen aren't in an GW fluff, they're a creation of my brother's. Altair is the system that I made up for my guard, and my brother added on Altair IV for an air mobil regiment that he's never gotten around to making. The premise behind them is that Altair IV is nearly inhospitable, to the population lives in small concentrated city tubes that are drilled deep into the ground. To effectively defend each other, these tube cities have to make use of air mobile troops to rapidly shift forces around and engage isolated threats.

Both of these worlds' fluff revolves largely around The Sabbat World's Crusade. The setting of the Guants Ghosts novels.

You could also possible feald them as Imperial Navy boarding troops.

Hope some of this helped.

hmmm, interesting concept i suppose... , i was kinda thinking of making a world for my guys

the fluff behind it is that its a civilised world, generally considered to be a 'beutiful' planet, a bit like Earth, except its got more oceans and the landmass is archipilago (lots of islands) for a name hmmm, Eden VI?

EDIT:
Ok, i've been looking on Lexicanum, and i've found this article
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Paradise_World

This is the exact sort of thing i'm looking for really , now i've just gotta come up with a name for the world (feel free to suggest one) and i also need a name for the airborne regiment, i was thinking of 'screaming eagles' after the 101st airborne, i like BoB (Band of Brothers)

I played a play-by-post Imperial Navy rpg a little while ago and I played a character from a world that sounds like yours. It was named Lyzanxia, you're welcome to use it if you like.

As far as the army list goes, i'm not really big on game winning lists. As a matter of fluff though, i would stay away from the carapace armor, airmobile troops are supposed to be light infantry.

Well, i too am thinking of going airbourne.
One simple way of showing they are airbourne is simply the name. So for example Mine will be called the 'Second Bearn Airbourne' With high useage of transport choppers (Chinook helecopters counts as valk&#39 and perhaps an actual Valk' vendetta fr fire support.

For tanks i'm going to use sentinels. These can pack a punch especialy if they out flank with las cannons.

I think if I were to do a fully airborne list from already established fluff regiments, it'd be Elysian, I like the concept behind them.
