Starting imperial guard, need to know what to get next

Default Starting imperial guard, need to know what to get next

I've started an imperial guard army, here's what I have:
Leman Russ conqueror w/ hull heavy bolter, sponson heavy bolters and pintle heavy stubber + track guards
3 heavy weapons - lascannon, missile launcher and mortar
2 Guard w/ grenade launcher
2 Guard w/ laspistol and CC
17 Guard w/ lasrifle

Any suggestions on what to get next, what equipment to add/drop etc?

command squad and more troops. maybe a chimera.

Charlie-

At the moment your siting on half an army............

You have listed 21 troops. (this is very odd) Using these you can only fill 1 platoon. but you still need the platoon commander.
You heavy weapons teams look fine.
The tank im not fussed on but thats me. But depending on what your going to do, sure use it.

the 1 thing you are seriously missing is a HQ choice. The Box set with the Heroic senior officer and retinue is a great pick up if you can find one.

you will need either the battle force box set, or at least 1 more box of troops and the command platoon.
If you want to expand this even more then go for some sentinals or veterans, even more troops if you wish. But so far it looks good to start your army with just needs that little bit extra.

The reason i got 21 is as I used the tank guys torso and legs, along with a spare head and weapon from the shock troops.
Yes I've got the battleforce, thats where these all come from, and thanks for the help.

On a side note, is it tourny legal to include conquerors? Or kroot mercs?

don't take any transports. if you need mobility, just take special weapon team squads w/ demo packs...they can really take stuff out pretty easily and the squad is usually small enough that they get ignored for the good part of the game. a hellhound is a must, and be sure you get either another leman russ (make it a battle tank) or a basilisk. aside from that, another 20 guard is all you need to kick some ass!

maybe get another battle chest along with a command squad. a codex would also be beneficial, but if you dont have that, it should be at the top of the list.

If by conqueror you mean the tank, then i dont see why it wouldnt be Tornament usable.
kroot mercs sould be usable as long as you have the rules to use them. But ask the co-ordinator first.

But get yourself another troops choice and a HQ retinue and your on your way to being a real Guardsmen commander.
Once youve gotten everything down and in a list (be sure to write your list and make your models on the same basis) Post it up and we here on the Guard board will give you some configeration tips and/or a tactica to go with your army. Also really think of whcih doctrines you wish to take. These can mean the differene betwen defeat or victory.

But on another note how many points are you planning to put together?

I've got the codex, and i have the rules for kroot mercs, yes, i mean the conqueror tank.
I was looking to start with an army of 1000 points, then expand it as i go. (No kroot mercs untill I've got 1k imperial guard)

thats a good idea with the kroot mercs. i had forgotten i had the rules for them. am i correct in assuming that your guard are all cadian?
lastly, have you decided on how you want to play this army yet?
