Imperial Guard plasma guns?

Default Imperial Guard plasma guns?

My wife has Imperial Guard troops. The plasma gun seems ideal for a special weapon for those troops, because of its ability to deal with heavy infantry. However, I seem to recall something about them possibly exploding?

The thing is, the codex entries for the plasma weapons doesn't have the "Gets Hot" characteristic, so I assume then, that the plasma weapons are safe to use. Is this correct? Am I missing something?

Errm...yes, you are. :P They have Gets Hot! alright - just look at the reference page for all the weapons at the back of the codex. In the rules for Plasma weaponry of any sort it will say "Gets Hot!" so yes, they do still explode.

That's the thing though, in the back of her codex, none of the plasma weapons have "Gets Hot!" in their profile. I assume that "Gets Hot!" is still a part of their profile, but it's not listed anywhere and it seems unfair to add such a heavy penalty if the codex doesn't list it and the BBB (still using 4th Ed.) doesn't specify that all plasma weapons suffer from it.

I think we'll apply the "Gets Hot!" rule, but I think it's messed up that it's not in the rulebooks.

Ah, I take it you're using the 4th ed codex? See the asterisk where it says "See the weapons section in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook for more details"? That'd be why.

yeah, noticed that. The BBB doesn't specifically say that ALL plasma guns have the "Gets Hot!" special rule. I'm not quibbling, and we are going to abide by the rule, I'm just making sure I'm doing the right thing.

Yeah, they require an armour save on a roll of 1 to hit.
Not all plasma weapons blow up... Tau and Eldar for instance have mastered Plasma tech, but in making it safer they slightly reduce the strength.

The Plasma Weaponry, used by Imperial forces, get the Gets Hot special rule, apart from the Walkers and Tanks etc, as they have 'cooling systems' which cool down the Plasma Weapon after each shot, or as otherwise stated.

Here is a question. Plasma Cannons, since you do not roll to fire it, how do you know if it gets hot?

As stated in the big rulebook, you roll a d6 when you fire a plasma cannon. 2-6 is nothing, but 1 = take your armour save.

Also if you roll a 1 your shot is considered to fail & no blast template for you
