Default Veteran Squads, representing our beloved alternate regiments

OK so alot of people have looked at the new guard dex and have despaired slightly as they believe they can no longer field their beloved custom regiments, however gw have thrown us a bone by including veteran squads with doctrine options , so i am going to go through these options to help these forlorn individuals out.

Representing Vostroyans, Terrax Guard and Harakoni warhawks: OK so the solution to to fielding these more elite guard forces is pretty straight forward, the grenadiers option, to be honest bs4, improved weapon options and a 4+ save put these guys on par with dire avengers, and a bit above dark Eldar warriors, which is why you only get 10 per troops choice, as a side note, Warhawks really need Valkyries as a way of representing the now dead drop troops doctrine.

Represnting Gaunts Ghosts, Catachans and deathworld Veterans: These guys are all too tough and elite to be represented by infantry platoons anyway, so dont bother, for each of these units 2 Doctrine upgrades, Forward sentries makes your guardmen a bit more defensively better in close combat (not a guardsmans forte), and gives the squad the stealth ability, which really represents the Catachans blending into the jungle ability or the actual cammo cloaks of Gaunts Ghosts.
Demolitions is the second doctrine that can be used to represent these units, as catachans are great lovers of demo charges according to fluff sources.
As an aside Gunny harker is essential to representing a catachan army.

Representing Combat engineers: This one is really simple and self explanatory, Demolitions.

Representing Adeptus arbites: OK this is the most interesting use of doctrines in the whole book because there are 2 doctrines and a weapon option that make an arbites list extremely viable.
What are arbites famously equipped with? shotguns and carapace armour? great you can take both of these with a veteran squad!
Now here is the second option which is a little bit of a stretch, representing suppression shields, the best way? Forward sentries, snare mines instead could be suppression shields blocking rioters attacks, and the stealth ability could represent the slight amount of protection from shooting the suppression shield offers.
Lord commissars are the perfect HQ for this list as their rules could be interpreted as an arbites judges abilities (aura of disipline etc).

Hope this has helped some people come to terms with the new codex and lack of doctrine system in it.

Steel Legion are best represented by taking the platoon option, as infantry squads now have access to Chimeras, I was only covering the veterans option, but veterans can take chimeras as well, so you could represent steel legion with veterans with no doctrines and a chimera transport i suppose.
