Default Veteran outfit

Hi...

I would like to hear your oppinion on what to equip my Veteran squad with - What would be the best loadout?

I have plans to convert a Cadian version of Gunnery Sgt. Harker - Thats the bull-necked individual toting a named Heavy Bolter...When included in a Veteran Squad he gives them Infiltrate and Stealth and Move through cover but they cannot take the Carapace armour upgrade. But which if any of the other doctrines should I invest in (seems melta bombs and demo charge gives them a punch w. infiltrate) and should I include a second Heavy weapon team. Third: which special weapons would compliment the unit best?

And I guess the Camo cloak and Harkers Stealth does not combine for a +2 cover save?

My Sergeant harker squad has the Demolitions doctrine, two flamers and one heavy flamer. They are anti-hoard control with the ability to damage vehicles.

I've heard the "you are wasting BS4 with a flamer" argument. Harker carriers a move and shoot heavy bolter, combined with three flamer templates and a one shot large template should cull any squad they shoot at.

I have enough anti-tank (twelve las cannons) so am foregoing the melta gun options.

I am taking them for fluff reasons, as they coincide to the Predator movie with Blain, Dutch, mac and Billy.

My friend plans on running his Veteran squad with shotguns and 3 meltaguns, deployed from a vendetta. His reasoning is that with a vendetta's 24" scout move, he can kill any vehicle on turn 1. The shotguns are there because they look cool, and it allows the squad to finish off small enemy units in close combat after shooting them or their transport. The doctrines are sinfully expensive, and Imperial Guard infantry are squishy, so he figures they would not be likely to take advantage of FRFSRF orders or long-range lasgun shooting.

Yup that's what i'm doing in a sense as well,

Commisar (powerfist)
Vet sergeant (power fist)
6 Veterans (Shotguns)
3 Veterans (melta/plasma guns)
Grenadiers

They're my drop in take an objective guys, I usually go up against marines so power fists are a must in close combat. You could drop the carapace armor and do... sort of as well, but unless your going up against marines I'd just go with harker and multiple flamers.

To be honest the carapace armour is the only good loadout, and at the price you pay for a veteran squad with 3 assault weapons and 2 powerfists, its an insurance policy against lots of bolters, I assume by commissar your mean lord commissar? as veteran squads dont have the option for the normal one.

Here's what I do for my veteran squad.

Vet Sargeant
Autocannon Team
Veteran with Plasmagun
Veteran with Plasmagun
Vox Caster (necessary - if we gives orders, we want to make sure they are followed)

In a Chimera with multilaser and hull heavy bolter.

I've only used this unit once, and it did a great job. Just sat in the relative safety of the Chimera, unloading its heavy weapons on tough enemy targets through the top hatch.
The vets can be unloaded, and the Chimera could be used to race units forward to claim objectives.

Let's hear some more set ups folks!
