Default Close combat squads

So, How do you do these. My Idea was this

Veteran Sergeant (power weapon or power fist)
7 Veterans (shotguns)
2 Veterans (Melta guns)
Grenadiers Doctrine

Valkyrie (multiple rocket pod, Sponson bolters)

My normal opponents are chaos marines and sisters of battle.

I dont think that squad would do too well in combat to be honest.

Here are a few;

Straken,
Command Squad with Medic, Heavy Flamer. 3 Guard with Pistol + CC Wep.
2 Bodyguards.
Priest, Eviscerator.

That squad will wreck a lot of enemy units, pop them in a Chimera so they dont get shot down too quickly.

21 S4 Attacks, Re Rolling Misses,
Strakens 5 S7 Power Wep Attacks, Re Rolling Misses,
Priests 3 S7 Attacks Ignoring Armour, Re Rolling Misses.

On the charge. Thats pretty nice, you also get a Plasma Pistol, Heavy Flamer and a load of Laspistols before you dive in.

Penal Legions are quite a nice combat unit if you roll Knife Fighters for them.

Orgryns are good obviously.

My fave is 6-8 Rough Riders though, nice and simple. Hide them behind a tank, get the charge thanks to the fact your Cav.

If you want CC, go penal legion. They get perfect rules for getting quickly and safely into CC.

Okay but what about a basic veterans CC team, cause that's the only thing left open to my fluff.

5 infantry squads with power weapons and flamers, 2-3 commissars with power weapons, add priest, hide him where he can't be targetted, combine together, then charge. Laugh as MEQs and TEQs shit bricks.

You don't need to be 100% veterans to have a decent CC army. Just take mobile guardsmen squads and give the sergeant a PW. While you unfortunately don't have an option akin to warrior weapons, you do now have the ability to stuff a LOT of hidden power weapons in your army. Give your guardsmen squads flamers or GL's and run like mad towards your enemy!

You can use the Commissars to give the stubborn USR, which is freakin amazing, and with all those hidden PW's you're going to be able to kill a lot of units in CC, specially if you combine those guardsmen squads to make very large groups.

Unfortunately I can't combine them, as they are mounted in valkyries. I don't know maybe just a tonne of big guns and dropping them on the enemy with the valk backing them up will be enough and I won't have to CC.

Do they really have to dedicated-CC units? I say just armed the Sergeant with a Power Fist.

They don't have to be, they just have to be able to jump out of a valk and hold an objective.

Why are you looking at one squad when you could look at, say four.

I totally like this idea, that would indeed be scary, or you could buy 4 squads of infantry and upgrades... Wouldn't that work pretty well too?

Rough riders are still a viable option, but you have to be carful with them.

Ogyns are still really expensive $$$ but are good.

Perhaps the four sqauds of guard would not fare as well against the sisters of battle (bloody flamers) but it's very easy to mass marines.
