Default Combined squads and KP's

Hi there,

Just a question, with the new combined squad given to infantry squads, does this affect the way kill points are determined? Does the total squad count as 1 KP? or the total of its components? If so, do you lose 1 KP for every 10 men you lose? Or, for example, a 20 man squad, lose 1 KP after reaching 1 man left?

To answer your question...

Combined Unit = 1 KP
Company/Platoon Command Squad = 1 KP

And posit another...

Kill Points = fixed?

Extartius is correct.

You could have a 50 man Combined Squad and it will still only count as 1 Kill Point. So a Infantry Platoon consisting of 1 Platoon Command and 5 Combined Infantry Squads will only give your opponent 2 Kill points. Nifty!

I don't know if its quite fixed, but I think it's a lot better than our previous situation... I like combined squads, but a 50 man infantry squad is REALLY inflexible, and with the price drop, takin smaller combined squad will rack up a high KP count still. At least the command squads are only worth one now....

Leadership is higher with a commissar, who is practically a necessity with that many guys.

This should almost be a Guardsmen law. If you are going to take 30-50 Guardsmen in a squad, a Commissar is must due to the sheer amount of attention the squad is most likely going get to whittle down the numbers.

If you are running squads at that scale, pinning checks are going to be a problem, even with the high leadership granted by a Comissar. It's not the presence of pinning that is going to be the problem, though, it's the timing.

Keep in mind, Company Command squads now can order squads back on their feet, allowing the unit to run, shoot, or even assault that same turn...but they can't gain a normal move. This isn't a problem if you are just laying down fire, but if you need to get to an objective with your one, big scoring unit, you can get pressed down pretty badly.

The upshot is that commissars also grant the Stubborn rule, which means that even Ordinance Barrage pinning checks are still at full Ld score.
