Default Hydras, Manticores & AA.

Just had a thought; nowhere in the Guard Codex does it say that the Manticore's or Hydra's weapons are on anti-aircraft mounts. This strikes me as odd not only because the original FW rules have them as AA mounts, but that the entire point to the Hydra is that it's an anti-aircraft battery!

Have I missed out something or have GW just been really stupid?

Hyrdas have an ability which functions as the new AA mount rule. I don't remember Manticores being AA though....

Fluffwise and in AI rules, Manticore platforms can carry AA missiles.

In this case they are air bursting warheads the scatter sharpnel over a large area. Hydras do have a special rule which denys fast moving skimmers a cover save, representing the AA rule.

In GW terms, there are no fliers, only skimmers. Even the GW Valkyrie is classified as a "Fast Skimmer", not following the "Flyer" rules as per Forge World rules.

Since there are no flyers, there is no special rules needed for Anti-Aircraft mounts.

True, but considering Apocalypse & even regular games can include Forgeworld Flyers, it does seem a bit odd.

Which IA did they have an AA mount in? The one I have doesn't set them as anti-aircraft, just as a regular surface-to-surface missile.

Imperial Armour 1, seemingly. That's what Army Builder tells me anyways.

Isn't the Hydra a datasheet in the Apoc rulebook? I'm pretty sure it has the AA mount rules in its datasheet, though I'm not sure how the other stats line up with the new codex. Regardless, you could just use the Apoc rules when needed (e.i., when playing apoc with flyers), and the codex rules otherwise?

Ah, that's a point. Never thought it could be a datasheet too *slaps self for ignorance*.
