Default Guardsmen or Grenadiers?

As I've said recently, I'm looking into starting my own IG army. But I haven't been able to decide on one small problem:What my basic troop should be. Most of you would prob. laugh and say:"Guardsmen!", but I also have a love for Strom Troopers. Besides, in my opinion, they have alot more than guardsmen, and are only 4 points more (making a squad of ten 40 more points than a normal guardsmen squad). Also, I wanted to be a regiment with not a whole bunch of troops, and had more elite troops. Should I use my favorite infantry unit for my troops using the Grenadier's doctrine? Or is it simply not tactical?

Well, either way, they die fast.

Not entirely helpful there Aftercresent...

Grenadiers are perfect if you need a hard-hitting strike unit. However, if you plan on laying down a half-decent amount of firepower, you'll need Guard Platoons.

Grenadiers work well when given Chimeras, so do so. Three squads, all with Chimeras, can perform high speed attacks on objectives, or enemy lines, deploying then firing on whatever they're equipped to kill. They also last a bit longer than normal Guard in assault, but they aren't great at it so don't get them stuck in without support.

Not to mention, three chimeras can hold their own shooting while they advance with their passengers on an objective.

True...
Would it be better if I took 3 Storm Trooper squads for Elites and then two platoons of 2-4 squads?
BTW, I made a sample list using Grenadiers...but I accidently lef it at school. When I get gome today I'll post it. It had 3 Grenadier Squads, 3 Storm Trooper Squads, and it also had a pretty good command platoon. I had pretty good command units, and had a Fire-Support squad, and 2 Anti-tank squads. It took up about 1800 points...

The problem here is my army's fluff. I love storm troopers. The funny part is I don't know why; I've never used IG once in my life (I've only played with Tau and SM, and faced orks). I heard they are supposed to be much better than regular guardsmen. Also, Karskin Storm Troopers look sswwweeeettttt. I love their look. And I love the fact they are Elites: I want my army to be more of a Veteran army, and doesn't have a the usual numbers in a regiment, but is alot better equiped to make up for it. So...should I use the 3 ST and 3 Grenadier squads, or is it better to do 3 ST and 2 platoons!?

I'm saying should I take 3 Storm Trooper Suqads and 3 Grenadier Squads (6 Storm Trooper Squads), or 3 Storm Trooper Squads and 2 Platoons?

I'd take the platoons, give you extra fire power to back you up.
