Default Are imperial guard any good in a space marine army?

I've just started to collect imperial guard but I also collect space marines; should I Just use my imperial guard on their own or with space marines?

Unless you are playing apocalypse, I don't thnik you can combine them.

Now if you were playing Witchhunter or Deamonhunter, you can add IG or SM troops, but that's about it IIRC.

The only way you can use both IG and marines in the same army is in apoc, or in friendly games, if it's in friendly games, you'll no doubt just want to field everything!

If I was going to combine SM and IG, I would use Space Marines for Troops and HQ, use IG for Heavy Support and use a mixture for Fast Attack and Elites.

But that's my personal opinion, you will probably have a different playing style to me.
I stand by the Heavy Support Imperial Guard, especially in Apocalypse, as IG bring Baneblades and varients...

IG are definately best for heavy support, although conscripts do make some nice cannon fodder!

You could split the points up and take two FOC's.

Space Wolves can take Russ Exterminators, but that's it. Any other guard unit used in conjuction with non-greyknights is cheating.

9 LRBT's will cost you about 1400 points. You're not going to win any games with 2/3 of your army invested in those things. Once decent CC squad gets in the center of them and they're pretty much home free for some debauchery.
