Default Acceptable or not?

Hi,
So I currently play SM but I have been looking to start my second army for awhile now. I just read the book Ice Guard and I am really getting into the Idea of a Valhallen IG army. Im have also been givein a deal to get alot of cadian style guardsmen for real cheap is it considered taboo to mix the two styles on the tabletop even if they would all be painted in a Valhallen style?

Not at all. Any style can be acceptable. Do you consider mixing Valhallans and Cadians, or painting Cadians Valhallan style?
Either way, Guardsmen from different regiments fight alongside eachother in many chapters of war. Are you considering having squads of different styles in your army? Or different styles of models in your squads?

Im thinking of mixing styles within squads with a general Valhallen color scheme, Even if I buy from games workshop I can get two cadians for the price of one Valhallen. Do you think it would be better to seperate the two types and paint them based on there regiment colors or do it the way I mentioned before?

Well, the decision is completely up to you

In my opinion, mixing different styles of models in the squads might look a bit out of place.
It would probably look better if you kept the two sets separate. Giving your army the look of two regiments working together.
Rather than a mixed force of different models. If you see what I mean.

You don't have to have too much of a difference in paintscheme. But the different design of the models would look out of place if you mix them.
Just my 2 cents.

Cheers.

Thank you very much for you help. I will take it into consideration once I finally get my hands on the army.

from my basic understanding of how guardsmen look thanks to the Cain novels, Valhallans look like your average guardsmen under the coat ( and I think I read somewhere the cadian uniform is almost standard..) you could just say there not ON an iceworld so they got to hot ( and trust me... comfy to them is short sleeves while still being able to see your breath.. so anyplace not a million below seems to hot for them)

I'm going through a situation similar to this with my guardsmen. I'm just using cadians, but on a plattoon i sculpted great big fur cloaks. This is my polar plattoon. As i am going to a regiment which trains in the hardest of circumstances and each plattoon has its own specialities, i want to make desert, polar, jungle and all sorts of different kinds.

Over all i think it is best to keep the styles seperate, so long as they look similar in paintscheme you should have a problem.

Valhallens?

http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/order.htm#m

Head pack 11, Kol Militia Winter Headgear.

It's not perfect for Valahllens (like a mix of them and the guys from the CoD book), but it works pretty well.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?
