Default SIGAFH question

For those of you who run SIGAFH style, do you include special weapons in your squads or do you just rely exclusively on heavy weapons in your squads? I'm putting my models together & I'm wondering if its worth dropping a squad or two to include special weapons in my squads.

On a side note, if I do include a special weapon it'll be the ever dangerous plasma gun. The 2 heavy weapons I'll be running is the auto cannon and lascannon. The strength of the plasma gun matches the autocannon while the AP matches the lascannon.

IMO put Special Weapons because when they get close, you want to get that extra "Umph!" in your short range firepower.

I never bother putting them there. I run a squad of Kasyrkin to run up ahead to protect my fireline as well as offering a good distraction for the enemy. I also keep my Demolishers on either flank to keep things away.

In my armies, I usually put all my units in different roles.
Heavy weapon squads in the back, infantry in front with special weapons and cheaper heavy weapons.
Anyway, I'd recommend special weapons in your squads.
If your opponents though getting hit on long range hurt, it gets even worse when they go within '24'.

If you're going with SIGAFH, then Plasma makes sense for the reasons you have stated; other Special Weapons are most likely wasted, save perhaps for putting a Grenade Launcher in a Heavy Bolter unit.

Ok thanks guys. Looks like the troops get to draw straws as to who's the poor lucky bastard with the sun gun.

Shooty Imperial Guard Army From Hell.

And for me, when I run my SIGAFH, I always take special weapons; Grenade Launchers in Heavy Bolter squads and Plasma Guns in everything else, for pretty much the reasons already stated.

Yup. Its every unit simply shoots & is equipped accordingly. Sometimes a simple gun line but is generally arranged to provide overlapping fields of fire to create kill zones. At 2k my army will have this in their armory:

Infantry special weapons
10 Plasma Guns

Infantry heavy weapons
6 Heavy Bolters
6 Missile Launchers
6 Autocannons
4 Lascannons

Vehicle heavy weapons
1 Inferno cannon
6 Heavy Bolters
4 Lascannons

Vehicle ordinance
1 Battle Cannon
1 Demolisher Cannon
1 Earthshaker Cannon
