Default Rough Rider load? Update! Pics!

I've decided to build some xeno-mounted Rough Riders to accompany my Feral Ogryns.

Which weapons load have you had the best experience with?

Hunting Lances?
Shotguns?
Lasguns?
Pistols & CCWs?

Meltabombs? Special weapons?

It really depends. But out of the list i would have to say pistols and ccw.

My overall choice for them would be Shotguns and the leader with a hunting lance.

Ahh the hunting lance.
So many people ask why it has an explosive tip!
I say so that it can do three things:
1-It will kill the animal being hunted
2-It will cook the animal
3-It will make the animal into bite size peices!!! lol ;D

but on the serious side i have not actually had that much experience with them but the aboove would be my choice

I would go for as many hunting lances as possible, and give the veteran sergeant a pistol and power weapon. One the charge you would get (from 4 Rough Riders + Vet Sergeant) 8 S5 I5 power weapon attacks, and 3 S3 I3 power weapon attacks. But unfortunatally, they are a pretty useless after the first charge, although the Sergeant can still cut stuff up nicely.

And I would only charge units that I knew had a good chance to kill on the first turn (like Terminators) and hopefully cause enough casualties to force them to run, then sweep them out into the sweet oblivion.

I don't know about being useless after the first turn. If they actually survive they can hold up that elite unit on the opposing players turn while his surviving termies have to waste their turn killing 1 RR instead of charging your HQ. If they actually wipe out the opposing unit then most troop units have rapid fire weapons and noone wants to waste them or an assault on one or two RR that have already used their hunting lances so use them to force Ld checks for target selection and to block charges. Ok so i'm scraping the barrel here but you get the idea.

RRs were never really meant to have a purpose after the first assault turn. makes em perfect for my DHs (charge em, stab a heavy shooty squad with teh hunting lance while the GKs deep strike, than let the GKs handle assault from than on)

Sorry for the colors in the pic. The details on the xenos mount casting can't be seen unpainted.



10 Rough Riders
~8 Shotguns
~2 Meltaguns
~Power Weapon for the Sergeant and meltabombs all 'round.

Painting them is this week's project.
