Default IG Regiments and Nurgle Question?

Just wondering if any specific IG regiment has a long history with fighting Nurgle, Death Guard or plague marines?

Hmm....nope, no notable regiments that have been expert fighting Plague Marines. Tyranids, yes. But the most of the men who goes against Plague Marines mostly die from the various plague and diseases.

I think IG regiments with any prolonged exposure to the forces of chaos are often exterminated as a precautionary measure anyway, aren't they? Or is that just when the Grey Knights or the Inquisition are up to some funny business?

I believe that's the case, or if there is a noticeable taint within the regiment. There's a piece about it in the Tactica Imperialis book. A regiment was fighting a Chaos army, and Inquisitorial agents began noticing changes within the Regiment's habits and psyche. They began to become more brutal and started to take gruesome trophies, stuff that they hadn't done before contact with Chaos. They ended getting exterminated from orbit, with posthumous honors.

I think Zenny made a good point, most that do fight nurgle in prolonged combat would struggle with diseases... and there would be very little concern for them... probably just get shot...

"sir, My leg's green, and has little puss sores every three inches. It feels like it going to fall off."
"What in the emperor's name are you crying to me for? you're a guardsmen, can't you take a small infection?" *Then shoots the poor guardsmen*

It's like fighting against leppers. Sure, people will love you, for a while. But the instant you show signs of the disease itself, your the one being killed, and so the cycle continues.

But this is the greatest thing about guard, you get to create all of your background! There are only so many eldar craft worlds, space marine chapters, tau hunter caders, but there are always billions more of guardsmen (if not, billions of regiments!) where that came from!

Yeah, if you want your regiment to be specialized in fighting a war against a Nurgel rebellion that involved some PDF guard to go green( nurgle) and your guys had like gas masks, big funky head gear and all that jazz to protect, then go for it!

Yeah, and when public support dries up for the leper holocaust, you can always wage war against kittens, paraplegics and homeless orphans...

Aye, no regiments specialising in dealing with that threat, the closest thing I can think of would be the Drookian Fen Guard fighting on Amistel Majoris during the 13th Black Crusade, a world which was blighted by the attentions of Nurgle and the Plague of Disbelief (Plague Zombies) - they held the line at great cost until the arrival of the Howling Griffons Space Marines.
