Default Missile Launchers: The new Horde-Killer? Discuss here.

Now, we have no need to roll to hit but for scatter which is (2D6 - BS)" and everything under the template is hitted. So, is anyone switching over from heavy bolters to missile launchers for horde-killing as well as tank-busting?

I'd probably use Missile Launchers a lot more now, but then again, I'd also use the Heavy Bolters too, they both have their uses in battle.

Yeah, you know I reckon I might. Krak missiles are still a poor choice for tank hunting, but I suppose now missile launchers really are jack-of-all-trade weapons. I think they might be a feasible choice against Tyranids and Orks; able to slay gribblies, light vehicles and monsterous creatures, but their usefulness against other armies is questionable. Imperial Guard the only other army I can think they might be moderately useful against, but IG tanks are perhaps a little tough for Krak missiles, and flak armour might render frag missiles an inferior choice compared to heavy bolters. Against all the other armies, I still think you're better off employing specialist weapons.

I always used the missile launcher to begin with. it isn't quite as useful against armor now since glancing hits can't kill vehicles, but it is much better at taking care of the hordes.

I've always just had 3 lascannons in my army (in one anti tank squad). The rest of my heavy weapons are missile launchers and auto cannons. I have heavy a few heavy bolters also, but never found them all that great.

My Valhalan missile launcher team have proven them selves, I call the missile launcher guy in that team "The Russian", he is my only named model in my army for good reason, he kicks a$$.

I now give every infantry squads a missile launcher and grenade launcher each. I think it makes them well rounded without having to resort to some crazy combination like lascannon/flamer.

the missile launcher and grenade launcher is also a good compliment to lasgun fire if you use frag, 2 templates are great for scoring a lot of wounds.

I'm still in the autocannon camp.

I field a mechanized army with standard chimeras, lascannon ruses, autocannon line squads, and meltagun command squads. In 1750 point games, I get 6-9 meltaguns, 6 HB, 3 HF, 9 multilasers, 6 Autocannons, 3 pieplate/LC, 66 lasguns, and unlimited potential to reposition.

I don't think I'll be adding more missile launchers to my army list, but I will be pleased to know they'll be more effective in future games.

Well, I'm going to get me some of them Missile Launchers and that old metal Cadian Missile Launcher I've set my eyes on in my 40K club. Thanks for the input ^^
