Default Kasrkin Bodyguard

Just going for a bit of common sense hear.
Imagine your the commander of an imperial army. Your going to be fighting in some fierce conflicts
do you take a bodyguard of kasrkins or veterans, or a bodyguard of normal grunts.
An easy choice really.
The commander is meant to be the ultimate man in your force yet he is protected by a squad of guys who have the same stat-line as a normal 6 point guardsmen. You don't see space marines surrounding themselves with scouts. (although a scout leader would be cool).
So why not have a kasrkin bodyguard for your officers maybe as standard or as an upgrade.
What do you guys think?

Commanders are not really meant to be plunged into the thick of fighting, but are equipped to defend themselves. There main job is to direct battlefield attacks and maneuver's, I mean you don't see our 4 star generals running out in a bloody combat just to pull the trigger, hes already done enough his main asset is the correct use of his force, and if he dies O-OH!

No, he wouldn't have Kasrkin, because Kasrkin make up 0.0000000000001% of the Imperial Guard, and even then are only found in Cadian regiments.

You might take Grenadiers, and they did make rules for a General character a while back who had the option of taking Grenadiers, but your basic Regimental commander is not going to have the Guard's finest Stormtroopers or Grenadiers guarding him.

Oh, and you can already have Veterans guarding your Officer; any member of the squad can be upgraded to Veteran status.

And thereby equipped with Carapace armour from the armoury. Sure, they may not have BS 4, but give them plasma guns and try not to look at the stat line and you won't even notice.

yeah too bad they don't get the hardened Veteran statline.

but the extra attack is nice if you want to make a combaty command squad

The way Hardened Veterans were initially described when they first appeared (3rd Ed. Codex) was as a bunch of super-hard soldiers who were often the last survivors of their regiment (yes, regiment; 8,000 men went in, 10 came out). As such, they are used in a "Special Forces" role, where their skills are most useful. Having them guard some jumped up schoolboy Officer is not only a waste of their talents, it's frankly insulting!

agreed

but guarding the regimental commander as he jumps out of a Valkyie on top of the chaos space marine lines isn't?

I could see them being a HQ command squad only. But for me it's not a big deal, they need to get into assault alongside my commander so trading a BS4 for a extra attack is probally something I would rather have.

putting them in the suicide squad with 3 plasma and a medic would be usefull but I have to agree with wargamer it's unfluffy in the highest regard.

Guard Officers don't do that, regardless of what the insufferable Twinks who play Drop Troops tell you.

By and large, the Imperial Guard does not deploy via grav-chute.

In reality, most Officers do not see battle at all. A Lieutenant might see front-line action, but what's a Lieutenant? The big-wig officers, the ones worth guarding, are sat 50 miles away directing things from a bunker.
