Default I have a question about IG basilisk indirect fire

I play tau, but I've played a few times against Guard armies, and have a question. When a basilisk fires from behind cover with no line of sight on a unit does it work like a Barrage weapon (ie. it has to guess the range)? Cause I was pretty sure thats how it works but I've had a few Guard players tell me that I was wrong.

Basilisk when had indirect fire training works as guess weapon so it works like Barrage weapon

You know you don't actually "guess" the range - right?

It's not like how cannons used to be (are?) in Fantasy.

The new guess rule is you place the template and see if it is in range. In short.

The old guess rule was you actually guessed the range in inchs and measured and fired.

A basilisk will not work as a barrage weapon as it is only one gun. There is no point of working a barrage with one gun. You simply see if range is correct and roll scatter (2d6 if not in los)

'Barrage weapon' is the name of any single indirect fire weapon in 40k. When it's part of a battery firing simultaneously it is call a 'multiple barrage'. You can find all this and an example of how it works on pages 31 and 32 of your rulebook.
