Default Survival of the humble conscript

Does anyone here think that conscripts will ever be removed from gaurd or is this just a figment of my imagination? I mean in future wil they still be the low points mass numbered body bag unit of 50 that we've all come to love.

I wouldn't be sad to see them go. I never use them anyway.

Nor I, but massed legions of infantry are one of the key elements of the Imperial Guard; you could no more remove it than you could strip them of their tanks or Basilisk. IG is the army of choice for people who want 'toy soldiers', and the current list is flexible enough for people to represent their army in any fashion they choose, from high tech heavily armed and armoured drop troops to second world war era trench fighting legions. Whether or not conscripts will remain in their current form is unknown, but there will always be cheap infantry to be had.

With 5th Edition, Conscripts will become an effective unit, so it is unlikely that GW will allow them to remain.

Frankly, I just got bored of Tau Online. The same questions and topics come up time and time again in an unending cycle. The answers could be spooled off by an automatic system.

"Independent Commissars are a bad choice."
"Taking Drop Troops and Close Order Drill is cheesy."
"Hull heavy bolters and sponson flamers must be converted."
"Commissar Ld bonuses are non-transferrable via vox caster."
"Pintle mounts and hunter-killer missles are rarely worthwhile."
"Swapping doctines from battle to battle is the stuff of powergaming."
"No you can't. Read your codex."

Etc.

A talented scripter could probably make a bot to address such topics while being indistinguishable from a real person. Maybe there are already bots among us, making up the numbers? Maybe I'm a bot? Maybe you're a bot? Trust no one... :shifty:

*shudders*

I fear to comprehend it.

[hr]

back to the original post.

well I doubt they'd drop conscripts. If anything they'd drop the independant commissars doctrine before that happens. and thats if they keep the rest of the doctrine system, but that'll probally be sent packing.

I just pray to god they don't drop the darn platoon origanization like a friend of mine thinks(really I never thought about it til he brought it up this weekend)

Tom's Alive! Good to see ya!

Come back to us when the guard get an update, at least? Then we can have some real conversations. I think that all there is to debate about for the most part has been done so many times that it's devolved into perpetual newbie questions.
