Why don't you just buy the Imperial Guard Paratroopers?

What paratroopers? Are you talking about karskin storm troopers?

In my opinion I prefer the Harakoni Warhawks, because they bring the most converting opportunity. Which I think will be fun.

Why restrain yourself to the set pieces Games Workshop uses?

Be creative! Pick your own doctrines, make your own models!

Yeah, I already PM'd you.

But to be more public...

I have a pretty good knowledge of airbourne warfare, so if anyone wants info, you can PM me.

But yes, a few doctrines of your own could be useful.

The only one you really need is drop troops, obviously. This limits you to infantry and sentinels. I personally have been working on some VDR stuff, and converting oppurtunites for drop sentinels, but to little avail.

Sentinels are not much support though, and if you only take a few they are pretty good targets. I would take as many as possible, or none.

Infantry. Oh gosh, infantry. You;ve got storm troopers, which should be used sparingly, because of points cost and enemy target priority.

If you took veterans as a doctrine, you could have a firebase of 2-3 squads of veterans, who use infiltrate to get into cover. (Veterans do not get the benefit of doctrines, sadly.)

I like conscripts, but not sure if they get doctrines or not... If they do, then you'd need the concript doctrine, but man that would be fun, but not that fluffy (Airbourne is more elite...)

Carapace may be useful if you want a more 'stormy' kind of army, but it is expensive, remember that.

I'd take Iron Discipline as well, since it can help your men stay in the game longer.

Veterans get access to infantry doctrines. Why they wouldn't I have no idea.

I'm actually thinking of making an Elysian based para-army. only 1000 points and way into the future when i can afford it.

I will use.

Drop Troops
Iron Discipline
Hardened Fighters
Veterans

OR

Use IA rules with flyers.

It must have been the one where only guard infantry with BS 3 have acess to it (Sharpshooters?)

My mistake, sorry. Well even better than... Could you get veterans with carapace? That would be... Joyful, to say the least.

No, I'm very sure I saw a release of IG Paratroopers in a White Dwarf, though it could have been for Forgeworld. I'll check the issue and update this.

Are you talking about the Elysians? If so, they are forgeworld, and cost a very large penny! if you have the money, I'd say go for it!
