Default Taking down a baneblade

My freind has a deamon hunters army and he is going to add a baneblade it. I am starting a imperial guard army. I want my army to be airborne infantry oriented. Does anyone have any idea on how I can have a reliable way of taking down the baneblade without breaking my airborne infantry theame?

Special weapon squad with melta's and or demo charge should do the trick if you drop them down behind it.

I'm not sure if you can give Special weapons any airborne transport, so if not then just take a storm trooper squad/veterans and give them melta's

is this a standard game? if so make sure he uses IA rules. the ones in Apoc are too overpowered.

Let me paint you a picture.

one baneblade(500) vs 1000 points of guard. I won but I would have lose my entire army except for 2 things. One I was about to spread out so only one squad could be hit at a time and two I deep striked a squad of storm troopers with 2 meltaguns behind the tank. And i still lost most of my army, i only had the storm troopers, a command squad, and weaponless Leman Russ. :sadnshocked:

moral an Apoc baneblade can quite easily beat an army. 8)

If you are playing equal points, and he is fielding the rest of his army alongside the baneblade, then you might as well just give up. If your friend decides to be nice and gives you an extra several hundred points, then you might have a chance.

The drop troops doctrine enables you to deep strike any infantry units, and sentinels. Use this to deep strike as many meltas as you can near the baneblade and just swarm it.

exactly

As a drop troop commander myself it's one of the most(okay probally the most) effective was to take down armor. course if you take meltabombs, odds are he won't move the darn thing just charge it and get 5-10(depending on the squad) automatic melta hits, if you land around 4-6 inches directly behind the baneblade the side sponsons can't target you, and he hand turn about(to hit you with the heavy bolter) without exsposing his back armor. A win/win

Aren't baneblades 14 armor all around?

No. They've basically got the same armor as a Demolisher, but with one more point of armor on the back.

Your best bet is to get as many melta bombs as you can in one squad (or two). Since it is close combat, you'll get two attacks per when you charge. Since it can only move 6" anyway, you'll always have a great chance of hitting. And its a melta attack! Pure death for any super-heavy.

If you want proof, read up on one of the last community games: Tom Norman's Imperial Fists versus Armoured Battlegroup. The Fists' assault squad was able to destroy the baneblade very, very quickly with melta bombs.
