Default DKOK Substitute?

Hi folks,

I've caught the DKOK-Style bug a bit here I've come up for a plan that was originally designed to make cheap DKOK, but I don't know how much it will actually save me. It'll definately make a unique army though. Your thoughts?

The plan is as follows:
  • Cadians for the base (Already hae like sixty or eighty, I'll have to tear some of the already-assembled ones apart, but no big.)
  • Pig Iron Productions Kolony Millitia heads ($7 for 20)
  • Elysian Drop Troop Equipment for extra to make them a little bulkier ($20 to outfit about 20-30 troops, since they don't all have to have everything)

I think I might be going for a mechanized/mech-heavy force to keep infantry costs even lower (plus I love vehicles!) though this means I'll have to partially re-paint my Chimera. In total, I end up with $35+$7+$15 for every 20 men, for a total of $57 for 20 and $28.5 for 10, substantially cheaper than DKoK at $70 per 10. How do you think It'll look? I think I need about 50-60 men for my army in addition to the vehiculars, so It'll only really cost me about $40+$21=$61 to $80 or so to get it going infantry wise, plus a couple more chimeras I would of needed anyway, a techpriest, etc.

EDIT: Actually, when the numbers sink in, I might just spring for a standard infantry based army, with some vehicles of course, but not Mechanized. 5 chimeras for the core army is much more expensive than a couple more infantry squads and I hate painting vehicles.

Plus I think I'll spring for some DKoK Engineers, simply because I love the whole concept!

If you are willing to go with extremely static poses you could do what I was considering, using the FW Gorgon squads and buying a pack of bases.

A full platoon for 180 dollars isnt bad but the poses look dumb. There just standing there bored, not the usual ready for battle krieg stance.

I can't seem to find rules for the engineers... I presume there will be rules in SoV-Part 2.

The Kolony militia heads are seeming more and more popular, but I'm just worrying that they will look totally different from their FW command squad.

Well I just ordered 100 Kolony Heads, DKoK Engineers, 3 sets of Elysian backpacks, and a Titan Techpriest. Of course, FW says to give them 28 days for delivery :P

I was tempted to get the Titan Crew on Foot for a commander (am I the only one who thinks that'd be hella cool?) but I decided it wasn't worth it.

Yes.

When you make your first guardsmen with the Kolony heads could you please put a pic up I want to see how similar they are to actual DK guardsmen.
