Default Japanese Guard

Now just recently the idea has crossed my head to start work on a Japanese Imperial Guard army, from World War II. I really love the idea of there kamikaze attacks, and there strict honor and bravery, anyone who has any ideas for the perfect doctrines to make my men kamikaze units would be greatly appreciated. I have seen it done before and it is just awesome, any help and ideas would be great thanks.

Just to forestall any arguments, this really isn't the place to delve into the actual WWII history of the Japanese Army. :shifty:

For suicidal attacks, I think you would probably need to come up with house rules. There really isn't anything for that in the current doctrines. Aside from that, I would just pick the normal "discipline" doctrines, and include commissars whenever possible.

Take a priest and some conscripts. Hardened Fighters if you are going to charge into enemy lines. Ogyrns too!

I would say these doctrines after studying WW2 japanese tactics.
Doctrines- Chem inhalers because of their suicide attacks.
Priest to drive them to that suicidal state.
Light Infantry because the japanese were known for ambushes.
Special weapon squads to represent kamikaze squads.
Ratling squads to represent there high sniper use.

Die hards: They rather have a honorable death
Priest: Fanatical Emperor worshippers
Commissar: Discipline, hard cold discipline
Light Infantry: Yes, expect in ambush and can take sniper rifle which could replace those ratlings
Veterans: Quite obvious. The been fighting the chinese before WW2

One can take Commisars anyway, so I wouldn't recommend the slot on taking them as Independent Characters. I would instead recommend that slot be used for Hardened Fighters to represent the extra training they got in close-combat.

For weapon-modeling, I'd say use the Lasgun to represent your run-of-the-mill Arisaka rifles, Heavy Bolter rules to represent Type 96 LMGs...for missile launchers, looted Bazookas or idk...the Special Weapon Squads or Light Infantry can represent sniper groups, although I'd use the Special Weapons for that instead, as the concept of the Squad-support Sniper was more a Soviet idea.

Yeah I'm liking the sounds of that. I think i will go with priests and commissars, then dot snipers here and there and yes the Russians did use sniper support allot not very Japanese I'm not sure which tanks to with because they only had 3 all very sad. I'm just thinking on hardened fighters 15Pt's but i have a 5+ armor save :/ expensive, ill have to look into it I'm thinking either cameleoline, or jungle fighters, that would be very fluffy. Now onto those tanks I'm not sure i know they used great amounts of artillery which could be represented as basilisk. Anymore ideas ha ha.

I had this idea a while back but never really went through with it. I think an infantry heavy force with the light infantry doctrine would work best. Heavy Tanks would probably be a no no, so I'd try to keep it limited to things like Chimeras and Hellhounds, maybe an Exterminator or Conqueror at the most. The basic Russ and Demolisher would be right out if you ask me. I reckon Artillery would be OK, modeling it as a stationary platform would be quite cool. Alot of the heavy hitting that the big tanks would do in a normal guard army could probably be done by some sort of flyer, especially if you use the optional rules from IA3 to give their bombs some more punch

If you want to get the Kamikzai theme going, get IA1 and use the Cyclops Demolition Vehicle, but instead of remote controlled model it with a pilot.

When the Japanese was going to attack Malaya, the British thought they won't attack with heavy armor because Malaya was mostly jungle but when the invasion came, the British got a surprise seeing Japanese tanks rolling through the jungles and towns. Put in a tank, that would be my advice.
