Default Officially starting Death Korps

For some time now, I've been looking to start a new army. I've looked at every available codex, and PDF that GW has ever put out. I've written up countless army lists, I've stared at models on the online store for hours, but there is just one army out there which I like more than any other. The Death Korps. However, the only reason that I have put off starting them for this long is that they are damned expensive.
But today, I told myself "Feth it, if you want to play Korps, friggen play 'em!"
And, as such, I'm starting up the 3630th Krieg Siege Korps.
I've already painted up a test Korpsman that I bought over the summer, and if I can borrow my sister's camera, I'll post up a picture in the showcase board.

Wish me luck!

EDIT: Forgot the whole reason why I made this post.
For those lucky enough to have IA5, what should be my first purchase?
I already have the 2 command squads, and an Advancing Squad. I'm thinking some form of artillery, maybe an Earthshaker cannon? Maybe some more infantry?

Well, you have an HQ command squad, a platoon Command squad and ten men. I recommend you get more infantry and heavy weapons. Build your army in small chunks, so you don't burn out.

For anti-tank weapondry, it depends on the number of, and thexarmament of the tanks you take. Autocannons and heavy bolters seem to be your best bet for your infantry squads. Will artillery be common in your army? If so, you may not need to take as many anti-infantry weapons with your infantry squads. For the help we provide to be extremely effective, you are going to have to provide more detail.

Urgh. Brave man. Elysians are bad enough, but I can't imagine trying to build an infantry heavy army like that. I hate resin.

Needless to say, the correct direction for a fluffy Krieg army is primarily infantry with significant field artillery support. But I suggest you alternate between buying/painting an infantry squad and an artillery piece or you'll soon get sick of painting all those Krieg Guardsmen!

I think your heavy/special weapons should primarily be focused on AT. I know you don't have much choice on the heavy weapon front, but special weapons should probably be geared towards taking out enemy armour. You should have a lot of men on the table despite their comparitively high price (unless you mean to take tanks), and their various special rules make them well suited to getting up close. Heavy mortars and Quad launchers should be an effective anti-infantry tool while your men footslog towards the enemy.

Unfortunately this list is extremely vulnerable to enemy armour and shooty armies. I expect Tau will have a field day slaughtering your men as they advance, and their Hammerheads will pound you with impunity. It might pay to have a suicidal Grenadier squad or two loaded up in a Centaur to go after those vehicles and perhaps even tie up a portion of their gunline in close combat until the human waves arrive.

A question, how do Death Riders fare? They seem better than normal IG Rough Riders, but how would a DR Command squad do?

@Tom: I plan to proxy using Cadians for as long as I can, buying one or two Korps infantry squads at a time. I could proxy the Earthshaker guns with the back platforms of Basilisks too, if I need to.

Does anyone else think that lascannons don't seem Kriegy? I think a missile launcher modelled as a panzerschreck (sp?) would be more fluffy, but lascannons work fine with me as AT.
It's important to note that Death Riders can't take meltabombs like codex rough riders, but on the other side of that coin, they do retain their close combat weapons and lapistols when they load up on hunting lances. Just keep in mind that unlike their codex counterparts they are an effective close combat unit but of limited use against tanks.

I think Lascannons fit fine in the theme of the army, given the archaic nature of the Forge World Krieg lascannon model. But they're a specialist weapon anyway; you don't have ready access to them like you would with codex Guard, so it might turn out that you don't field any. Just be sure to point out to your opponent that the 'missile launchers' represent lascannons though because few people will be aware that DKOK can't actually take conventional missile launchers.

Another alternative would be to take off the part of the barrel before the blast plate on the converted missile launchers & and place a lascannon barrel on the end of it.

Half-brother had $1,800 in his wallet, stolen by a asshole. Worse still since he was a foreman and that was paycheck money.

Note to self: Don't keep all my money in my wallet.
May I ask why you were carrying around all your money?
