hello everyone i have been playing 40k for a few years now with my SM army and would like a change so im planning on starting IG. now i plan to make a steel legion army just because i love the way their tanks are painted. I need your help to answer a few question ???

1. Would Cadian look ok painted in the steel legion colours?
2. Do You know anywhere that i can get a tutorial on painting them or what colours they are generally painted?

If you look in the IG codex it has bunches of paint schemes that you can use. If you pick the colors you want to use, then you can take it to the store and the staff will show you how to make it work.

You can paint any model however you want. So I imagine that cadians look fine as steel legion... Be warned though, it'll cost you $.

And as for the painting... Look in the codex, and then take it to the store.

I'm pretty sure the coats are mostly bleached bone, and the helmets and stuff are just black. As for using Cadians to represent them, I don't reckon it'll work. The two regiments are just too different. Cadians would probably look ok in Steel Legion colours, but don't try to pass them off as Steel Legion IG, just Cadians or some other regiment with the same sort of colour scheme. If you want a nice characterful Steel Legion army (and the models are awesome, it must be said) either try ebay - risky, but metal models are hard to assemble dodgily, and appaling painting can be fixed with brake fluid and patience - or, if you can afford to wait, wait till GW release plastic longcoat IG , probably some time in 2008.

If you're planning on doing a fluffy Steel Legion army, the price isn't quite as absurd as if you went infantry heavy, seeing as alot of your points are going to get eaten up in buying chimeras, sentinels and other armour, I wouldn't really expect you'd be able to fit much more than the minimum platoon, command platoon and armoured fist squad and still have room for some heavy hitters.

Actually I talked to a redshirt recently, and he informed me that GW still has Steel Legion available by mail order! They're just not displayed in the online store. I don't know how much truth there is in it, but it won't hurt to call them and ask.

May be true, but they'll cost ya. Ebay woudl probably be cheaper - Steel Legion squads do come up on there every once in a while. But as I said, use ebay with caution if at all.

Steel Legion are still for sale online (In the Canadian store at least) but they're like $45 for a squad of 10.
