I was thinking scene the new commissars are coming out that I should add a few for a close combat punch. So far my command is only used for there leadership there mortar and all have closecombat weapons and pistols so once the enemy hits them they can jump into the fray with a helping hand of 15 attacks.
currently using Junior Officer -Trademark Item (SO SO SO USEFULL I MEAN I TOOK 20 TESTS AND ONLY FAILED 3 TIMES) Guardsmen-3 close combat weapons Guardsmen-1 Mortar 60 Thinking of -boltpistol -Trademark Item (Must have) Guardsmen-3 close combat weapons Guardsmen-1 Mortar Commissar - power fist 120 I'm thinking of doing this for the HQ but I might do it for the other 2 command. I put my command behind my troops so unless the enemy can go threw 2 or 3 squads in one turn, I'm always getting the charge with these guys. besides a re-roll leadership 9 sound pretty good. I also tried giving these guys flamers but I never got at the magic range often enough to make use of them. |

No point in wasting points on a power fist commissar if your command s toting around a mortar

I have to concur, a Commissar would be wasted in a shooty HQ.
More to the point though, why have a Trademark Item (which allows only rerolls within the unit and causes a test if the officer should be killed - remember as an IC he can be targetted in combat) when for a tiny bit more you an have a standard allowing the command squad and all units within the officers command sphere to re-roll as well... things that make you go hmmmm... |

Why would you give three of the attached guardsmen laspistols and close combat weapons if there's a mortar attached?

I read the rules wrong for the trade mark item. I thought scene the officer has a leadership range of 12 that he could use it that way. Im going to change that to a standard.
As far as shoot goes its eather stay in cover and shoot a mortar or be in the open with a heavy bolt and be in LOS with 30 enemys and get wiped out. Can't do much shooting if there dead. The reason with the commisar is to add points to my 1700 list Im making. Say a phinx lord hits your gun line having a command squad counter with 13 attacks and 4 powerfist attack can help kill that nasty model. |

well I had a fight with it the othere day. I got it down to two modles. Then it hit me in close combat. I mange to kill one but the phonix lord and his 2sv made it impossable to put him down. I wounded him about 25 30 times. I thought if I have a 4 str6 powerweapon attacks would able to put him down. Also I won the game. That was the only modle left on the table.
It killed its way there 2 sentenals 45guardsmen. I still had the other half of my army. |

I don't think there is anything wrong with having an assualty coomand hq. Personally I would get rid of the mortar get a flamer instead..or a melta gun give te rest of the unit las pistolas and ccw's. The officer should have a pweapon and give him carapace armor. I usally buy my guy a refractor field becuase as tom says this unit no matter how u play it will be outclassed by your opponent.
Use the unit as counter assualt, but it needs to be used in conjuction with a true assault unit like roughriders or boneheads...then the unit takes on a different role of adding punch to your true counter charge unit. It works for me anyhoo. As for the commisar I tried the set up and usally he's just not worth the points...give the 5 point psword.
