The Germans used cavalry in WWII... and the IG is based heavily on WWII in terms of fighting styles, and relative tech.

But wargamer.. the germans also used bikes during WWII.... I personally think that Rough RIders should be on bikes.. the concept of still taking any form of beast as a mount in the 40th millenia is just to.. primitive. I'd say leave it for the orks.. but even they have bikes..

The Imperial Guard recruits from many worlds... several of which have pre-blackpowder tech-levels. For these individuals, cavalry is often the fastest, and most powerful troop-type they have.

This is the greatest strength of the Guard: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Cavalry are powerful, effective fighting units. Just because they don't have flashing lights and covered in modern techno-crap doesn't mean they aren't worth having.

I was going to say that, but you beat me to it.

The Imperial Guard and the Imperial system is such a vast organization and is very hard to defend, if a rough rider squad on horses works, it's good.

Well, that is very true.. I can see both of your points. The guard do recruit from many worlds, it would just be nice if I could include such an awesome squad without giving up the character of my army..

You can do a botch job just now, by use of stand-ins. Tell you oppoent these here biker troopers are just rough riders as far as rules go...

And theres a VERY expensive conversion kit available from GW mail order: But it might serve as a good guide to seek a cheaper means of making them
