Default Cheesey Idea? Bad Idea? or perfectly fine?

Okay, I am currently trying to figure out how to squeeze as many tanks into a codex imperial guard list at 1,500 points. With grenadiers I managed to get about 3 demolishers, 3 chimeras, and 2 hellhounds.

But I was thinking - I am taking tanks, right? why not take small enough units as possible? That led me to the last chancers to fill out the chimeras - take cage and scaffer in one chimera and take 4 individual models and give them chimeras. That allows me to get 5 chimeras for only 154 points in additon (about 30 points increase per chimera).

Thoughts??

Thanks for reading.

Oh and one quick note - I don't want to use the forge world lists as that book costs a penny and my GW isn't always supportive of them. And I don't want to use the online list for the same reason.

Yes, how did you get Chimeras so cheaply? And I thought the Last Chancers were one squad - how are you getting so many Chimeras for them?

-4 barebones chancers + a naked chimera will go for 114.
-yes the chancers are 1 squad, but they have a rule saying that you can form 5 small units with them.

And each sub-unit can buy a chimera...At +70 points each. So your bare-bones last chancers are the cost of Schaeffer, Kage, and each of the last chancers. THEN, splitting them into sub units, you can BUY the chimera's at cost.

The end result is 504 points minimum for the six infantry models, and five chimera.

last chancers are quite tricky, doh my self planning in using them as suicide guys. HOW?? they can deep strike and remember that the sub units can be of only 1 model to if you want and you can use up to 5 sub units so you can put on them demolition charges to so why not use 4 guys with demo charges deep striking them separate the rest equip as may see fit. imaging the face of your opponent when he see only 1 little guardsmen deep striking and suddenly BOOM > a demo charge lands right on his so expensive assault marine squad, just with that chancer of 21 points with his demo charge have take his points back 3 to 7 times over, a sacrifice worth to do don't you thing? ;D

Your points are slightly off. Last Chancers only take demo charges if they're specialists & that means they're 26 points. Still very cheap.

speaking of demo charges, i hate the damn things!! sure they "can" hurt but the chance of you hitting yourself (the wielder or another unit) are quite high. ive had enough experiences with them blowing up the wrong things and costing me dearly. same with plasma weapons and deep striking. too risky for me imo. though it does add a lot of fun and character to the game.
