Default Torn between regiments...

What regiment should I play?

Vostroyans, Valhallans, Mordian Iron Guard, Salvo Chem Dogs, Cadians, Praetorians, Catachan, or Steel Legion? I really don't know which one to pick...

Salvar Chem-Dogs have my vote. A bunch of murderers and thieves pressed into service to combat Ork incursions in the underhives of Armageddon who loot and steal anything not nailed down; got to love them. Their only reasons to fight are that they get to keep anything they find and if they break the rules, they get sent back to the hellhole of Salvar. The ultimate underdogs. So cool.

Have you read the rules in Chapter Approved '03? They're pretty cool.

Well, what do you want out of your regiment? This is a pretty broad question, and your suggestions cover everything from mechanized to jungle fighters to line-'em-up Redcoats.

Erm... That's basically most of the renown Imperial Guard Regiments. What do you look for in an Imperial Guard Regiment? What do you like?

One suggestion I have is why not create your own regiment? You have the Codex? Use the doctrine system, and your imagination and create your own, unique regiment. Combine box sets, models... Whatever! What it all boils down to is what you want. Why not combine mini's from all of the Regiments you've mentioned and have them all in the same force, like a ad-hoc Guard company.

The choices are limitless, and so are the options available. Write down what you like, and if you can't come to a decision then, cross some of them out, or roll a dice. Either way, it's your call, and if you can come to a more precise conclusion, then I'm sure we can all help as best as we can.

Yes, hence the reason why the Imperial Guard have a doctrine system.

What is your favorite Military type film? Zulu? Starship Troopers? Aliens? Take inspiration from films, books or comics and you can mould that inspiration into the form of you very own, unique Imperial Guard regiment.

Well... My friend does play nids... what would be a good way to represent a bug-killing based army? :P I'm reading the 'dex now buuut... doctrines are all so confusing to my small mind... :P I've already got a look in mind, based off the Cadians (and the GEars of War), and I guess I'll think up some good fluff for a homeworld on the long trip to NYC.

Starship Troopers?

Doctrine wise, you could have an Imperial Guard Regiment who specialise, or who have fought on numerous occasions against the Tyranids. I say this once, and I will not say it again. Never, ever, ever pick Doctrines because you think they will give you some kind of advantage over your opponents, because they won't. Doctrines were designed so people could create their own Regiments without using house rules, not so you could cheese your force to death. You have been warned. Doctrines are for fluff, not for cheese.

Anyway, ideal Doctrines for fighting Tyranids would, most obviously be the Tyranid Hunter Doctrine. Another good (fluffy) one would be Hardened Fighters.

I'll be straight with you, and say read your codex. You do the work. You choose what you want, and why you want it and not think twice about it. There is little most people on here can do, as we don't know you as a person, what you like about 40k, what armies you like and what your playstyle is.

Read your Codex, it's not that hard.

I know that. I want it for fluff, since my main ememy's nids. I'll have it entirely SST based, the nids being the main enemy of my planet, Churubia. And the Churubians and the nids have been at war in their system for many millenia, locked in perpetual combat, ergo, they couldn't really get to anywhere. That's not the whole fluff, I'll have it written up in the fluff/stories board once we get back...
