I've collecting Imperial guard and have Squads for over 8000pts but how many sqauds may I've in one Infantry platoon?

And you can have a varying number of squads: check the IG codex. The maximum is five squads per platoon.

Only one Troop choice?

You can also take a squad at below full strength as long as it doesnt have a heavy weapon. So that makes 7 squads in total

no you cant, you can only ever have 6 squads max in an IG infantry platoon. the remnents squad replaces one of the full strength ones. so you still have 6 squads, just less men!

Ok... I'm starting out a cadian 8th army when I finish my eldar and I have two questions about platoons... first it says in the codex that the platoon consits of 6 squads right? but it also says that you can only take 5 infantry squads, am I right in assuming that the 6th squad it's referring to is the command squad? Also does the command squad take up a HQ choice as well as being part of the infantry platoon?

Another question I have which I may aswell ask now is... Can a chimera transport a squad of guardsmen?
