Default Starting IG and I have $300 to spend what should I get 6-18-07?

I was wondering when a Guard fires say a pintle-heavy stubber on a tank does it count as open top? Is this differnt with Russes and chimira? And yes most likely I am doing guard instead of chaos any suggestions to get started will help. Also what are common tank set ups and chim set ups? List on second page and convince me to play guard I am thinking about Death Guard too so I need help Deciding.

Okay I have $300 to spend please tell me what I should start with (including Forgeworld).

If you fire a pintle-mounted weapon the tank does NOT count as being open topped, I cant remember where it says that in the BGB but it does.

On another note, one way that I prefer to run my Chimeras is with either the Mutli-Laser/Heavy bolter combo, or the heavy flamer template spewing death machine. I like to run my normal Leman Russ with a lascannon and extra armor, whereas the Demolisher gets a heavy bolter, and sponson heavy bolters. If I run a bassie it gets indirect fire and tossed behind area terrain.

Buy as many troops as you can when you start off - just go nuts!! Then design your list - with us of course!!

You never know whn the extra models will come in - I'm kicking myself for loosing about 30 of my original guardsmen through naff conversions.

Also get hold of what you like!

And abuse us... We can tell you manythings.

It would be nice to know what you want to do.

Well I want tanks but not an mech army (not to many chims), I love the dakka of guard and want tons of men. I love morters and also I was wondering what a dakka tank would be, would it be a demo or battle cannon one with Heavy bolters all around and a pintel stubber. Also is $65 a squad worth it with the kreig? Also are there any better looking rough rider squads other then kreig or tallan? Is it good for heavy weapons to be in squads or just the support squads?

well, the exterminator leman russ is all dakka! very good at firing on the move.

you can always try some tanks and a hellhound! hellhounds are sweet IMO.

troops are good! conscript squads with a commisar are also fun!

Its a Forgeworld tank with a Twin Linked auto-cannon on the turret. And then the best way to outfit it is with a hull mounted heavy bolter, and heavy bolter sponsons.

What about normal non-forgeworld tanks?

Well the only true non-forgeworld tanks (ie. off-the-shelf) are the Leman Russ and Demolisher. Personally I favour the Demolisher because that extra strength really makes a difference against enemy tanks and the lower AP makes it a Terminator slayer. Plus, you also have better side armour and sponson options. The Demolisher won't always be able to fire it's primary weapon first turn, but from there on it's king of the battlefield. ^-^
