Default "Warrior weapons"

Just a little question - according to the warrior weapons doctrine, any guard infantry thingummybob may have either a laspistol + ccw or 2 ccws. My question is - what is the point of having 2 ccws when you can have a pistol and ccw? Pistols count as ccws anyway, so a model with 2 ccws will get no more attacks than one with pistol + ccw. So why forgo the extra (admittedly puny) shooting power for no apparent bonus? Unless I'm missing something...please help me out here, this is something that's been bugging me for ages. Thanks in advance .

Doctrines are not there to make your army better, they're there to help represent its fluff. This is a problem that is also rampant among Space Marine players, many of whom abuse the traits system to take an advantage at the cost of a disadvantage that has no bearing on their army ('We Stand Alone' being a popular one - no allies).

The ability to swap lasguns for two close combat weapons is indeed inferior to a laspistol and close combat weapon, but it caters to those people who want to field truly barbaric tribal IG armies without upsetting the WYSIWYG rules lawyers.

And you could represent 2 CCW's with a really cool polearm or the like. And anyway, anyone that is advanced enough to use a pistol can use a lasgun...
