Default Bassilisk

Im just getting back into gaming again, after an extended break. while going over my army list i was wondering if it was worth getting indirect fire for my basilisk?

it helps i suppose, i battled leestar with my guard and i didn't have indirect, i had a very limited arc of fire to put it one way.

Definatley. There's no point of a bassie without one. Who wants to expose your AV12 front armor to the enemy when you can be safe behind a hill? Granted, when you fire indrectly your minimum range is 36", but the safter of a hill is worth it. And you can still fire normally, if you see the enemy directly... I think...

Agreed. A favourite tactic of Basilisk junkies is to have one Bassie in either corner, thus allowing the enemy nowhere to hide until they close in and destroy one of them, by which point you'll hopefully have done plenty of damage.

Another common tactic is area denial; you can dissuade certain units from using particular avenues of approach or trying to hold distant objectives that'd otherwise be beyond your reach. No Space Marine tactical squad wants to stand around in the open waiting for an Earthshaker shell to ruin their day.

It's a small price to pay for a great improvement. If you just want direct fire, get a Demolisher, but a Basilisk has many more evil purposes.

indirect fire is the whole purpose of this war machine, after all it's an artillery piece.

ive had a guard army for a few years now and i tend to go troop heavy, (it's rather fun to outnumber orks, and nids, for a change), however i ALWAYS include a bassie with indirect.

in non escalation games it really does come into its own, and if you happen to get to go first on turn one, then any skimmer won't get the old glancing only hits (unless you're TAU of course).

your other advantage is that you know that your opponent WILL go for it with something, usually a fast choice.

so you can use this to your advantage, & set up a nice little ambush.
