Default Sentinels with "Hardened Fighters?"

Does anyone have experience using Sentinels with the Hardened Fighters doctrine? I was thinking that it might make for a decent countercharge unit or be useful for tying up enemy infantry (the non-powerfist-wielding kind, anyway). My main opponents at this time are both Guard (Death Korps of Krieg and a mixture of Valhallans and Necromundans), so something assaulty might work well.

I would be giving it to a Sentinel with an Armoured Crew Compartment and an Autocannon (I might use magnets to make all of the weapon loadouts interchangeable). Would this make it too expensive?

I also just think that chainsaw bit is too rad not to use.

hardened fighters rocks on sentinels. gives 'em that little more punch. use them like ogryns and also protect your tanks with them. sent. w/heavy flamer and Hardened fighters will cost you a mere 50 points and does an excellent job of mopping up wolf scouts.

sometimes i mount my chainsaw and "hat" (a scratch built armored crew compartment), and heavy flamer to my sentinel. I only use 1 sentinel so i cant use standard move-n-shoot in groups tactics that I guess are considered the norm.

It makes a really good roadblock. You position it behind something to block LOS, and the threat of it being there makes people shy about moving around said obstacle to where you can charge out flamer blazing, and ram into them. Once they get over their anxiety and close in anyway, you can tie up a whole mob of ork boyz, squad of tactical marines, or similar things that don't have the Strength to penetrate you. You will probably get the sentinel killed by the Nob or Sergeant or whatever the squad has as a leader who may be better armed, but it usually takes a couple of turns and it chops up and burns up a lot of enemy grunts while delaying them from getting to that critical point where they can threaten to assault your troops.

Sometimes it just gets blown up by a missile or something before it is any use, but I use a Macharian cross (sometimes more than one) and reposition it also with the sentinel special move rule, so it's pretty mobile even before the 1st turn.

Pretty much standard for me. It makes them so much more useful in CC and is just the most annoying thing for an opponent who doesn't realise that sentinels are good in CC. I manly use it because I like the aggressive use of sentinels and if they can shoot and do CC then it helps a lot better.

Wouldn't it make more sense to give a CC sentinel a Heavy Flamer?

I'd like to keep the Sentinel as a "generalist" unit, that way even if it doesn't get into close combat, it can still get some shots off at a distance with a multilaser or autocannon. Heavy flamers are nice, but there's always the chance that you may kill enough of the enemy that you deny yourself the charge. Ultimately, if I use magnets for the build, I can have any configuration--I just like the autocannon best.
