Too expensive to be honest. The awesomeness of mechanized formations really can't be shown in a single battlefield. Its in the large scale conflicts involving several continents that mechanized infantry really own. But in a single game of 40K, where their mobility is mostly wasted. You're better off with large mobs of guardsmen. But hey, if you like the idea of mech guard screw the mathhammer and go for it.

Too expensive it is not! I did the math, and the All-infantry list that I wish to run comes out to be $572 on Battlewagon, and my mech would come out to be $549, and I, personally, think that that is enough of a difference, money wise, to run Mech. I didnt even factor in the fact that I'm getting some peices of my army cheaper from people around here, wich brings it down to about $529.

Other than that, I think that if you use the right ballance of troops and vehicles(including tanks and what not) then you should be able to do a great job.

Actually i ment expensive points wise. You dont get as much stuff for the points you sepnd. I mean fair enough you get atleast 6 shots, but you'd get more with a nice batch of guardsmen. And it only takes one shot to down a chimera and sink you quite a few points, while guard squads take a nice solid 10. I think mechanized like all guard has to be played with bigger proportions, so they're awesome-o-ness doesn;t shine through until you use massive battlefields with big point armies.

One chimera = 1 guard squad so you trading 10 wounds for an armor value. The armor value makes you immune to anything less then str 6 from the front. 10 wounds at T 3 and no armor save gets killed quickly

A chimera also doesn't need to make a leadership test.

You can compare it sort of this way 1 Chimera (85 points ML/HB) vs 10 guardsmen (Missile Launcher/Plasma Gun - 85pts) The chimera has 6 shots up to 36" and is immune to str 6 or less from the front. 10 guardsmen have 1 shot at 36" and are vulnerable to everything in 40k.

It takes 6 casualties to put a squad below 50% and without ID cannot rally if they run or 10 casualties to kill. The Chimera can be destroyed with one hit.

Each has its value and limitations

its a generaly good idea man but in city fight where theres ally ways streets houses not so a good idea. you instead try to get mobs of guardsmen and armoued battlegroup. i did and so far i havnt lost a battle with my ig

This just brings in the luck element of the game i mean no army is perfect but hey i say go the the armored guard its your choice i think its an awesome tactic cause you can do heaps of damage really quickly ;D

But this is your choice entirely
